One of the many things I like about CT is the 5 recent notes on wines in my cellar that pop up on my home page when I log in. There is almost always something notable, whether it is informative, quirky, or in some cases just annoying.

Today for me was just quirky, all 5 wines were scored 92.

I have two 92 pts (‘19 Tempier Rose and ‘10 Gloria), one each of 93 pts (‘08 DP), 95 pts ( ‘01 Arnoux RSV), and 100 pts (‘82 Pichon Lalande). Averaging at 94.4 pts.

92/93 is kind of the tipping point for me from good to very good

Any spreadsheet can manage my cellar. Only CT gives me the breadth and depth of genuine opinions by people that actually drink wines that they (usually) pay for, not just professionals and retailers.

The users that do not inventory their wine in CT are missing out on what I consider to be its greatest feature.

I like that feature, too.

Today, the 5 wines earned two 92s, a 93, a 95 and an NR. I learned more about a wine from the NR review than I did from those that posted scores.

Today was 2-94, 2-90, and a 93
Interesting. I'm always in a hurry to do what I opened the page for.
Thanks

I have an NR, a 94, a 90 and, bizarrely, two reviews of the same wine with the same review date one rated 89 and one 92.

But the average cost of my cellar is "only" ~US$30/bottle, so I guess I should expect slightly lower values than the high-rollers here.

An unusally high rated day for me today. A 94, 96, two 98's and one NR.

I have “tasting notes on my wines” set as my bookmark on my browser. I probably spend the most time there. Classic version of course.

Brett, you bring up a great/interesting point worthy of its own thread. Which version of CT? (Will probably post as a new thread) like you I use Classic as I have “mastered” or at least become very comfortable with its functionality and reporting. If you’re a data wonk it’s great. However I am not a tech ludite so I do occasionally visit with the new version.

As for notes on my wines, I proceed w caution and look for notes from CT’ers with some cellar alignment and lucid notes.

Today 94, 97, 99, 95, 93. Two long and a bit wordy but still helpful notes on 2009 (99) and 2010 (97) Pontet Canet that I own a lot of. So a good and helpful day for CT notes.

+1

i agree that this is one of the coolest features I look at most regularly.

it's also a good way to flush out who you want to become Fans of, and who you want to Block (great notes on your wines vs. "Drank with eddie")

+1 or scores with no words.

I too learn the most I think from reading the notes that don't have scores. I still assign scores myself some of the time, but less frequently. That makes me think about what to write more than just deciding what score to give.

Wine Grove's post I give a 92, Ibetian a 93 for saying it first.

Also agree that this is one of the many strong features of CT.

I don't think I have blocked anyone (though I think I have my settings set for not including wines with a score but no notes). So I get the occasional "drink with Eddie" note which is of course annoying, but I guess I always hope that the same person might enter something more useful the next time. And if not, it is easy to ignore.

I definitely have used it to follow or fan people. And I use it a lot to think about what I want to open any particular week.

This is something that I hope Eric will address with an update in the future.

Unless I'm mistaken, private tasting notes are not included in the regular public tasting note view. It would be nice if I could create a private tasting note that would be visible, only to me, along with the public tasting notes. As it stands now, the private notes are off to the side and are not very noticeable.

Today I have a 93, a 92, an 89, a 95, and a 97. The 89 weirdly is a 2005 d'Yquem that was part of a vertical tasting - makes me think it was an off bottle.

I never noticed it until somebody mentioned it on WB a few months ago. Now I visit that page a couple of times a week -- it's great!

No, Eric will not just fix it in the future.

You just report those to us. It takes two clicks. There is a link next to every note. We clean them up and teach the users in question where they are supposed to put such notes.

I think the punishment/re-education should include a bottle of 19 Crimes that they have to drink with the person they named in their tasting note.

Three very helpful notes from experienced tasters today. To paraphrase Meatloaf, 3 out of 5 ain’t bad.

I obviously wasn't clear with my post. I said "address", not "fix". Nothing is broken.

I'm not trying to get others to stop posting personal comments, like "Drink with Eddie", in the public tasting notes.

I was hoping that the private notes could be included with the public notes, but would only be visible to the person that posted the private notes.

All reds or all whites are a flush, and a straight is 5 consecutive scores. We need a weekly best hand game.

So a Royal Flush would be a 96, 97, 98, 99, 100..all reds or all whites. The highest hand would be 5 of a kind.

This could be a fun thing to implement.
