romankj -> inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/9/2024 5:33:43 PM)

When I taste a wine, say at a store tasting, I like to log it in Cellartracker.

When I do it via mobile (ios), I can search for the wine, then from the wine details page chose "drink or remove"
Why removing, I select "had a taste", add a note, and hit consume.

When I do it via desktop, there is no "drink or remove" option when none are in inventory. I first have to "add it to cellar" which I do, then hit "save and done" (adding no other details like location, store, price, etc). It then appears in inventory and I can select "drink or remove", "had a taste", add a note, save and done.

It appears to me that they are treated very differently, however.
The ios wines show up in my purchase list, with store "taste", and no apparent way to filter out, as you can't search by negative parameters
The desktop wines do not show up in my purchase list- I believe CT automatically filters out those with no store or price. Is that right?

However, neither way is ideal IMO. I don't want them showing up in my purchases, so I try to add them all with the desktop. However, I miss the convenience of one-click logging and it's a pain to add and then consume. Ideally I could log them without first adding them, but not have them show up in purchases.

Am I doing this wrong? Any advice or fixes to my process? If not, any hope of changing it so it works consistently?

It seems to me that if you're just tasting a wine that you didn't purchase then you shouldn't be using "Drink or Remove" at all. Scroll down just a little more and you'll find "Add a Tasting Note". Isn't that what you want to do?

Our mobile app has a feature to immediately purchase and drink a bottle in one step. We call it "non-cellar consumption", and there is a whole Youtube video on it.

Our desktop website does not have this. Add the bottle to your cellar. Drink it. It's two steps. It takes me an extra 5 seconds.

That is all.

romankj -> RE: inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/10/2024 10:49:36 AM)

Thank you for the response. I don't think "that is all", though.

One shows up in your reports, say "purchases over time", and the other doesn't.

If it was just a matter of one more step, 5 seconds, I agree you should be telling me to get over it. But when how you input the transaction affects how the transaction is treated, they aren't the same thing at all.

Eric -> RE: inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/10/2024 10:53:35 AM)

Well you have coded them inconsistently somehow. But they are the same. But doing this in the abstract is impossible. Please provide SPECIFIC examples of wines. Barcode ID's of each bottle. Mobile and desktop.

romankj -> RE: inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/10/2024 10:57:54 AM)

I found and watched the youtube video. Thank you, I did not know that existed. I had figured out that functionality over time on my own but that was helpful.

My questions are:

1. on the desktop if I add the wine and then consume via taste, it does not show up on purchases lists. Why is that? What specifically is going on behind the scenes? (I am not doing anything to screen them out, but I am glad they are not there, because that's how I like it)

2. If I do a non-cellar consumption via mobile, it does show up on purchase lists.

Do you agree that's inconsistent, or do you want to treat them differently on purpose for some reason?

Eric -> RE: inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/10/2024 10:59:46 AM)

Can you please, please, please give me specific examples?

I wrote all of this code. I have no recollection of us doing any special filtering.

if that's still not clear let me know... I took screen shots but couldn't figure out how to embed in message. I need technical support for my technical support [:D]

Eric -> RE: inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/10/2024 11:16:48 AM)

Thank you. This helps. It took some digging.

Indeed, CellarTracker considers a purchase blank when the Store is "Unknown", the price is 0 and the purchase is delivered. And we DO filter those by default both in the PURCHASES view and the side panel on the right.

And we have a hidden parameter that lets you actually see ALL of your purchases here: https://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?iUserOverride=1506&Table=Purchase&HideBlankPurchase=0

When you are creating the purchase in desktop your store name is left blank which makes the system add "Unknown". The mobile "non cellar consumption" feature is populating a store name of "Taste".
If you want to hide those then change the store name on all of those to Unknown: https://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?Store=Taste&ShowFilter=1&Table=Purchase&HideBlankPurchase=0#selected%3DW2313717_P226048721_Kfe5eb586a709a732d944f02b286cf407

You can do it in seconds in our desktop site with the bulk editing feature: https://support.cellartracker.com/article/21-bulk-editing

Excellent!

It matters to me. I like to track how many bottles I'm buying! I suspect I'm not alone in that.

The mobile non-cellar consumptions are showing up, which I don't want. So, I've been adding wines via desktop. I know it's only 5 more secs, but at a 50 wine tasting it can add up. Plus, it's easier to do while at the store.

As you suggest, I can easily change store name to unknown and they will all go away. This solution is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for digging in.

Eric -> RE: inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/10/2024 11:36:54 AM)

Happy to help. Look for store names of Restaurant and also Friend's Cellar. Set those to Unknown to filter those as well.

romankj -> RE: inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/10/2024 12:41:58 PM)

just when you thought you were done with me [:@]!

I just switched those "stores" to unknown as you suggested. I thought this would fix anything. something went awry.

Now when I look at purchases and sort by store, I SEE unknown on the list... I didn't see that before:

Gordon's Waltham 1.4% Bottles purchased (53) / Remaining (44) / Cost: average $68 / total $3,595
Winery 1.2% Bottles purchased (46) / Remaining (30) / Cost: average $40 / total $1,826
de Négoce 0.5% Bottles purchased (20) / Remaining (12) / Cost: average $12 / total $244
Unknown 0.4% Bottles purchased (16) / Remaining (9) / Cost: average $17 / total $278
Verve NYC 0.3% Bottles purchased (12) / Remaining (8) / Cost: average $67 / total $806
Golden Goose 0.2% Bottles purchased (8) / Remaining (6) / Cost: average $74 / total $592
Eataly NYC 0.2% Bottles purchased (8) / Remaining (5) / Cost: average $46 / total $369
Volante 0.2% Bottles purchased (7) / Remaining (3) / Cost: average $22 / total $154
Saratoga Wine 0.2% Bottles purchased (6) / Remaining (2) / Cost: average $35 / total $210
Gift 0.1% Bottles purchased (5) / Remaining (1)
Total Wine Dedham 0.1% Bottles purchased (5) / Remaining (2) / Cost: average $28 / total $139
Gordon's Watertown 0.1% Bottles purchased (4) / Remaining (3) / Cost: average $37 / total $148
Lower Falls 0.1% Bottles purchased (3) / Remaining (2) / Cost: average $35 / total $106
Needham Center Fine Wines 0.1% Bottles purchased (3) / Remaining (2) / Cost: average $44 / total $133
reveler needham 0.1% Bottles purchased (3) / Remaining (0) / Cost: average $27 / total $80
bin ends needham 0.1% Bottles purchased (3) / Remaining (2) / Cost: average $36 / total $108

then, if I go into those wines, it is not clear to me why they say unknown. They are NOT the wines I previously had marked as taste.
For example, the 2019 Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna Il Poggiale
I did buy 2 bottles on 12/16, but it was part of a larger purchase:

White
2019 Benanti Etna Bianco Contrada Cavaliere Etna DOC Carricante more Total Wine Dedham 1, 0 (750ml) $52.00 12/16/2023 Edit

Red
2021 Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese Total Wine Dedham 2, 2 (750ml) $21.00 12/16/2023 Edit

White
2021 Planeta Etna Bianco Etna DOC Carricante Total Wine Dedham 1, 0 (750ml) $32.00 12/16/2023 Edit

White
2022 Saladini Pilastri Falerio White Blend Total Wine Dedham 1, 0 (750ml) $13.00 12/16/2023 Edit

Red
2019 Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna Il Poggiale Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese Unknown 2, 2 (750ml) $35.00 12/16/2023 Edit

for some reason those say unknown now, when previously they said Total Wine Dedham.

I don't THINK anything I just did should have changed that, but clearly I messed something up.
Is there an audit log? I "roll back changes"?
And why is "unknown" showing up on reports if it should be filtered out.

Eric -> RE: inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/10/2024 1:13:30 PM)

As previously mentioned a purchase is only blank if the storename is "Unknown" and the price is $0.

All of these have prices: https://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?table=Purchase&Store=Unknown#selected%3DW4078106_P217495134_K3900bef59cf4c8c93040786e0c59a64b

Eric -> RE: inconsistency in consuming "taste" bottles (3/10/2024 1:14:42 PM)

You might have inadvertently updated these. There is no rollback.
