Can't find the answer to this in the Forum.

Does CT track the bin history of a wine? If so, where do I find it?

Occasionally I move a bottle from one bin to another. For example I get it out for a dinner party, relocate it to "Dinner Party" then don't open it and would like to return whence it came.

I totally understand that I can avoid the issue by not relocating the bottle until it is consumed so that scanning the code tells me where it came from.

Thanks for the help.

No, the history is not currently tracked.

The bin is preserved when you change bottle location, so instead of moving bottles to a "Dinner Party" bin, move them to a "Dinner Party" location. Then you can simply move them back to your cellar if you don't consume them.

That is a very neat and simple suggestion. I'm a little embarrassed not to have thought of it. I need to give some thought to the naming of the location because "Dinner Party" is very specific and, maybe, I can come up with a name that is short but expressive while staying general. Thank you, again.

I should have thought to suggest that. I do a similar thing all the time. For example I just traveled to Chicago with two bottles and have relocated them to "*Chicago" (the asterisk so it appears at the top of my list) but left the bins alone.

It seems to me that if I drink a bottle and then undrink it, the bin name is preserved. In my case I mark the bottles as drank when I prep them for a dinner party and undrink them if they are not used.

Of course the Location change is much more elegant.

Yet another way to get what you want that I do all the time is (on desktop) just open a new tab for every bottle you pull. Click on the correct bottle that you're (considering) drinking and then leave it there. Then after the haze has passed I resolve all the open tabs. Either they get a tasting note written and I hit "drink" or I put them back in the clearly marked bin that's indicated by the checked line of which bottle is up for drinking and then just close the tab. Easy peasy.

Here's how you can do this with your iPhone/iPad/Mac and WineGPS:

Browse your wine cellar and add a bunch of bottles to your SHOPPING CART! You use a cart at Amazon all the time. Same thing here: it's a scratch pad until you check out. You can't add the same bottle more than once. Wines remain in your cart even if you turn your device off.

Go to the party and live it up! When you return home with something unopened, swipe to remove it from your shopping cart. Put it back where it came from. The Location and Bin display in the cart.

If anything is left in your cart, Check Out to have WineGPS tell CellarTracker that you drank them on such and such date for whatever reason. Or continue shopping. Or Empty the Cart and start over.

What else can you do with the WineGPS cart?
* Impress your friends and print the cart as a PDF.
* For those of you selling wine, build a For Sale collection in the cart and download it as a CSV file. Import the CSV to a spreadsheet and create an invoice.
