97 Points

Saturday, July 12, 2014 - I have to say the 100 point scale is no advance on the 20 point scale as both are based on a period when most wines were undrinkable so 50+ of the points are wasted..

This is a stunning wine I think the best ever produced in NZ ( and I have tasted many and judged 100s) with excellent colour, elegant complex cherryberry nose with hints of shitake and compost, wine gum and cinnamon; beautiful elegant balanced flavours a taste that lingers forever soft tannins subtle French oak and none of the porty characters DR has experienced in unseasonably hot years. This is already 8 years old and I will cellar the next bottle till 2019 and the subsequent one till 2026. If you can get your hands on this GO FOR IT! luckily access is largely by mail order which limits market hyperbole

well done Neil hope those that follow can live up to this!
