I'm starting to think these Bonds may never fully come around. Dark dense fruit with a core of blackberry and menthoi. However, the tannins are dusty and not well integrated. Almost like a spoonful of flour has been mixed into the wine.

Surely ok to open now, most of us probably have no more than two bottles. It touches the tongue and palate as it alerts the nose…something wonderful this way comes. Think of all the one word adjectives we have used…wow, spectacular, etc etc. “all the words” This one is all the words. Why isn’t this 100 point wine? For a Napa cab, it is. In in five years I might give it 100. There is the facet of old world emergence of secondary notes that isn’t happening here, perhaps cannot happen. But then it would be a garagista from some new region in Europe. Drink it now or in the next decade. Drink it while you are alive. Whenever you drink it you will love it

Weekend in Westport; 8/25/2021-8/29/2021 (Westport, CT): Opened and decanted and then drank over the course of 3-4 hours alongside some other new world wines. This is one of my favorite California producers. One of the bigger wines in that portfolio - from a vineyard higher up on Spring Mountain. This has the new world fruit for sure but there is more of a subtle side to it. It's still much too young to be drinking. More primary in style. Looking forward to our bottle in maybe 20 years.

Side by side with the 97 Latour which we thought outclassed this. This was brawny and bold with some strong secondary flavors coming through given its maturity. But the Latour from a lesser vintage was preferred for our palates. This is clearly a great wine though and by any measure very very enjoyable.
