4th Annual Wild Game Dinner (Chateau de le Shane aka Shane's house in New Jersey): Paired with a Venison Rib Chop dish at Shane's 4th Annual Wild Game Dinner. This bottle of wine was amazing from the first sniff to the last drop and was probably the biggest surprise to everyone. The wine was decanted at about 4pm and tasted at about 8pm. The color was a medium to dark almost opaque garnet with surprisingly no sign of any bricking. The nose was so complex and layered with earthy mushroom, gravel, black and blue fruit, spices and cedar. It had great depth and richness on the palate with impeccable balance, a velvety soft mouth feel and flavors of tar, cedar, plum, black raspberry, lavender, cassis and nutmeg and a long luxurious finish. My WOTN and favorite pairing. Its hard to imagine this wine being any better yet it is far from declining in my view.

From a 3L that was purchased from Winebid earlier in the year. Decanted for sediment. Unlike the bottle from last year, the color was darker and almost opaque. However, the nose and taste were similar - a dark cherry core with a dusting of cocoa in a redwood forest. Tannins were fully integrated. I didn't get the impression it was fading (probably because the bottle was drank quickly!)

A fantastic wine. Tasted with friends in Prescott. I didn't really look at the body color. Just appreciated this wonderful wine. Consistent with my notes of almost six years ago: "floral nose, followed with aromas of cedar, cherry, leather, some tobacco, subtle and well integrated oak. An exceptional, velvet mouth feeling, with flavors of cherry, raspberry, spice, mild red currant." More intense. Great balance. Drinking at its apogee now!

The bottle was one of the last wines tasted among a lineup that included several Bordeaux First Growths, Guigal LaLas, and several Napa Cults. The fact that it made me and others say 'Wow' is a testament of its pedigree. Dark cherry, lightly roasted coffee, forest floor with silky tannins. Little bricking. Excellent wine. Drink now.

Bucket List Tasting 2.0 (Sbicca Restaurant, Del Mar, California): Decanted 1 hour. Clear deep garnet-blood red color. Fabulous bouquet of red cherries, currants, creme de cassis, spicy oak, bourbon vanilla, baking spices. Similar on the palate, full body, balanced, seamless, magnificent structure, polished and refined but also fresh and vigorous. My #2 and group's SECOND PLACE. Thanks ShaneT!
