Big ST, that showed neither balance or reserve. Bold dark fruit still present (no age fall off) but overly tannic, alcoholic (hot) and just not a wine that is going to get better with age. Scored poorly across the board with 8 blind tasters, despite being the most expensive bottle tasted. I've not followed this producer, but boy I'm glad I only bought 2!

Visiting Rome and Tuscany; 6/18/2019-7/2/2019 (Lazio and Tuscany, Italy): Luce della Vite's Lucente is the second wine of their icon Super Tuscan, Luce. The 2011 Lucente is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Sangiovese, aged for 12 months in oak barriques (55% new French, 5% new American oak and 40% once-used French). Still a youthful opaque ruby in color, it is effusive of ripe red currant and black raspberry fruit, accented with notes of dark chocolate, anise, sage and espresso. Full-bodied, freshly acidic and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it still has substantial grippy tannins and a fair amount of oak that will need to assimilate. The middle palate is dense, leading to a long but somewhat astringent finish. Despite the fact that this wine is now eight years old, it should benefit from additional cellaring. If this can come together as expected, a higher score will be warranted. Drink 2021-2031.

Dark fruits, spices. Great wine, particularly for the price.

Nose of rhubarb, leather, raspberries, blackberry jam, and black pepper. Tannins are robust; yet the finish needs a bit of work.
