Lovely, complex aroma with red fruit and herbs and that signature Calera “dustiness”. Still tons of fruit with a nice backbone of acidity. This is drinking beautifully right now but no rush.

2010 Calera Jensen Pinot Noir Acquisition June 2022 from wine shop after late release from winery library Opened for 1 hr; Enjoyed at blind tasting Jan 25, 2024 Deep ruby, with slight browning at the rim. Nose of red fruit and wet earth. The mouth revealed rich, caressing, vibrant fruit with impeccable balance, soft tannins, and a 20+ second. Simply outstanding, and in a perfect place right now. It was the WOTN. A real tribute to the winemaking talents of the late Josh Jensen.

6.5 years after the prior: Sadly, this was equally disappointing. I wish we picked up the forest floor and notes that others describe. Instead, we get, as so often from the wines of this house, an overabundance of muddy coffee characteristics. After two nights of trying to enjoy it, the rest of the bottle (about half) jumped into what turned out to be a very lovely sauce/ braised lamb necks.
We realize that this iconic and trailblazing house (and this vineyard in particular) attracts a lot of love, and we wanted to join in that, but alas, can’t. We have one remaining 2011 to try, and so we shall see.

Amazing how much vibrant fruit is left. Been 10 years since I opened my last bottle and this hasn’t faded much at all. Beautiful floral nose, vibrant candied red fruit with some caramel and a little wet stone . Very interesting .

A lost bottle... Always fun to find wines in your cellar that 'should no longer be there'. Anyways, this was as good as it ever was and could last many more years. Fantastic wine.
