  • Two hour decant at home then back into the clean, dry bottle to take to CoopersHawk with family. Slow ox'd at the table for 2 more hours. Blueberry on the nose with florals and red fruit also. Savory compounds on the palate. Nicely complex yet clean and simple in a way at the same time? I guess, good focus is the theme.....it's a beauty. Andrew's fav of the night. Mine, too.

  • First bottle of this recent auction purchase. Decanted for 2 hours then back into the bottle to take to HMCs for dinner.

This one needed every bit of 4+ hours to shine. Before that it was a tad tannic/closed still. At various times this one exhibited blue, red and black fruit. Tannic at 2 hours but gains weight, fluidity, smoothness and depth of fruit as it gains air. Floral, spicy, herbal at the outset and it all comes together at 4-5 hours of air. Glad to have more of this in the cellar for the next few years.....not anywhere near its potential/apex yet.

  • At PNP this wine was BEAUTIFUL!! To date this is my favorite domestic Cab Franc experience. Modern in style/oak with beautiful secondary and tertiary flavors just fill the glass. Sweet fruit tannins glide with a long finish. Just lovely right now.

A highlight of the trip so far with some heavy hitters to come.

  • Another bottle generously opened by MJP when we visited him in Houston. This was a last min pull, and could have used a decant. That alone surprised me, because I just didn't expect a 10 yr old Cab Franc from Hourglass to be so age worthy. While this wasn't yet singing, it had tremendous energy, with a pure and youthful profile that showed off really focused, expressive red fruit and an herbal complexity that elevated the experience. Lighter on its feet than the Abreu had alongside, this wine was about the energy for me. Another hour in the decanter and I suspect it would have been singing. Great find MJP!

  • I really did this wine a disservice by not decanting or cellaring longer. The nose was incredible but the palate was locked up tight. By the time it was hitting it's stride the wine was gone. I'll be looking for more of this so I can continue to follow.

    Decant or Hold.
