  • When you see the colour, you know theres an oxidation issue here. Not the worst oxidation i have met, but lacks freshness and kind of clumsy flavors. Flavors with melon and mint and easy 90 points, but no real class. Cellaring whites are tricky.

  • Absolutely stunning and explosive nose, just want to keep smelling. It’s layered with both ripe tropical and citrus fruit, lilies, marzipan, melted butter and signature Ramonet spearmint that comes in after some air. It’s immensely powerful and concentrated with such incredible density, weight and texture, yet not at all heavy as just enough acidity provides its richness with both lift and focus. While no doubt still young and primary, its attributes are in perfect display, simply rocking tonight in every way. To no surprise, 2012 Ruchottes is a Grand Cru-Premier Cru 😉

  • Dinner at Noize: This was in a grumpy mood - oak was rather disjointed and the wine seemed rather heavy without much tension. Not the first Ramonet that I have had whose oak stuck out in a bad way, and I am not sure if it will ever integrate. A pleasure to have a Ramonet with some age though so am grateful to Nick for bringing this.

  • Dinner with Melvin (Noize): Opened and checked for premox on arrival, this was absolutely singing - I just had a small taste, but the nose was crisp and fresh and the palate both taut and buttery. On serving an hour or so later (in larger glasses - perhaps an issue, although it shouldn't have been) the wine didn't show as well, although still enjoyable. Just a touch of oak and spice, an attractive and pleasingly weightless mouthfeel, and plenty of bitterish yellow fruit - but no joie de vivre.
