Liked it. Dark fruit up front. Blackberry, warm blueberry cobbler, maybe some currant. With hints of leather, lead, tobacco leaf, and iron on the back. Still evolving and going strong nearly a quarter century in. Will revisit every few years.

Book Club (Water Grill): Blind: guess California Merlot with age, 20+ years. Partial credit.
Dark colored, oaky nose. Saddle notes. Old world. Dark plum and cassis. Medium plus acidity. The saddle turned to barnyard fairly quickly and was poop at the end. Not my thing.

Bookclub (served blind)--Counselor Seiber (Water Grill in Costa Mesa): I drink so very, very little Bdx that my note here can be worth the 2 cents it's probably gonna have. I loved the fragrant, present aroma, and the wine seems to be in a transition point from young to old, crossing over as it ages. Tobacco leaf, plummy and juicy, some charcoal.

Tasted next to 2001 Leoville Las Cases. Spices on the nose, dark fruit, cigar box and again graphite. Great balance, quite bright despite the ripe, generous fruit, well integrated tannins. Not quite as majestic as the LLC, but really excellent. Very persistent and vibrant finish. Drink or keep. 94-96

LB does not get better than this. Balanced, harsh tannins gone, fruit still showing, elegant finish. Drink 5-10 years
