Drank side-by-side with 85' Mugneret-Gibourg Echezeaux. This was really fun comparing the whole cluster Dujac to the de-stemmed Mugneret-Gibourg. Generally speaking for younger Burgundy I personally tend to prefer the juicy and lower tannin de-stemmed style vs whole cluster wines. However, with a bit of age the magic of whole cluster comes through and makes wines like this Dujac so incredibly special. Both of these wines tonight were exceptional, with beautiful aromatics and elegant fruit, but I would give the nod to Dujac.

Brilliant color. Quite a smooth palate, no evidence of the commanding tannins noted a few years ago. Pure red fruit, albeit somewhat fading. Even with this bottle, which had never moved, the peak is somewhere in the recent past and the time to drink is now. 93-94.

This wine was surprisingly course and inelegant. Lovely sweet nose, but the balance here is suspect as the fruit is begining to fall on its face and the tannins are still in command.

(Dujac Bonnes-Mares) From magnum. Sweet, cooked cherry nose still shows lots of oak, but the wood is well integrated. The palate is very ripe and sweet with good acidity and mouth-wrapping tannins. I’m surprised how primary this wine still is, no real complexity. I don’t know whether it will just stay at this level for another 15 years or whether it will improve. Still a fine wine, but I'm disappointed in the lack of development.

Clarity and brightness of red fruit. Quite high toned aromatics for Bonnes Mares. Beautiful bottle. 95-96

Soft and elegant with reasonable structure, but not a particularly clean wine. 92-
