Agree with others this needs time to open up. Dark ruby purple. On the pronounced nose black fruit, bramble, tar and a hint of vanilla that emerged over time. Clearly still developing. Initially no pepper but it too revealed after an hour. On the palate, the tannins were immediately evident but they tempered as it opened, and were still very evident. Medium plus acid and loads of dark fruit and cassis. Leather and tar also emerged nicely as did the peppery character. Full bodied with medium plus flavor intensity and noticeable alcohol level. The finish was medium plus to long. This wine has loads of development still to come. If you like dark fruit and tar, it’s drinking nicely now. Would suggest pork ribs or lamb with this. Definitely give it 1-2 hours to air out. You can also hold on for several more years. It’s still going places that I’m looking forward to seeing.

Whole cluster fermentation on this Syrah and it shows. But, this took probably 2 hours to find its footing. On the nose, black plums and generalized roasted black fruits. The entry is black plums, figs, and the whole cluster character comes out from the very start. Black pepper finish that really didn't express for an hour or so. Very good wine and definitely still a youngster. I have 1 more of these and plan to hold it for at least another 5 years. The 2009s will definitely be next! Drink these now with a hefty decant or leave them on their side for another few years. Wine is a journey, not a destination... absolutely beautiful.
