  • This is complex, harmonious, and boldly flavorful. Red fruit and citrus on the nose. Creamy strawberries, cherries, lemons and vanilla on the palate. Bright acidity. Integrated tannins. Long finish. The 2015 is, by far, the best Culmen Reserva I’ve tasted.

  • Garagiste purchase
    Medium ruby
Aromatics medium. Red cherry, subtle vanilla and wood, but not heavy on new oak. Later some dry herbs/shrub.
Palate has a medium + body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium, medium grained and integrated. Alcohol medium. Sweet/sour mix up front. Ripe and tart cherry. Some spice notes on the palate from the oak.
Finish has a medium + length. Balanced
Overall, a nice, enjoyable and well made Rioja. Not as much oak as I would have expected on the nose and not as aromatic as other Riojas I have tried. Classic sweet/sour on the palate should lead a blind taster to Tempranillo. Lacks other complexities in my opinion though. Still has years of aging if desired based upon the structure though.
As a side note, likely the heaviest 750 mL bottle I've ever held. Like an Amarone.

  • Beautiful wine - incredibly well integrated with lovely fruit and soft tannins. Will only get better with some time in the bottle

  • This was surprisingly very good. Decanted, and enjoyed with beef and chicken Fajitas at a large dinner party. Made in a modern style with big, red, ripe, and concentrated fruits leading; and secondary notes starting to emerge. Early in development. Plush mouthfeel with tannin, oak and acidity providing balance. Finishes big. Worked perfectly with the hearty food. I look forward to enjoying this in the future. Drink through 2035+.

  • A big wine, like a Rioja with Napa lineage. Very nicely balanced, gobs of fruit (mostly red fruits - raspberries, currants, bing cherries) some herbs and a touch of vanilla (but not so much that it intereferes with the fruit and purity of the wine. It's lovely for a big wine.
