This is an oustanding 18’ Capelan and was a pleasure to have with a beautifully cooked rack of lamb! (2 hour decant needed)
Sight: Showing it’s Grenache side a beautiful medium ruby color.
Nose: This is the definition of CDP a superlative ripe nose of Red Licorice, Sweet Black Cherries, Peppery Garrigue, with that clay scorched earth back ground.
Palate: The wine drinks like a dream for what your paying with those sexy Grenache gripping tannins holding all that juicy ripe fruit with balanced acid making That 14.5% forgettable. Traditional Long vatting time (6-8 weeks) and gentle press including 18 months aging time in “30% barrel” and 70% concrete vats = Great wine making.
Overall: This was actually the First CDP I ever drank years ago… so maybe I’m biased but certainly I’m lucky to have had the opportunity so early. This is Absolutely one of my favorites and the whole table of Napa wine drinkers raved how good it was! The table liked it over the La mission Haut brion 1996 to my Humiliation.

Full-bodied, lush, round and with a good depth of flavor, the wine is packed with sweet, ripe, dark cherries, plums and black raspberries, licorice, herbs, spice and pepper. Round, opulent and rich and loads of sweet fruit from start to finish is found here. This is one of the top wines this year.

Very nice in all respects. I see some added smoothness in the coming years. The finish has some tannic astringency that will likely mellow out.
