Pop and pour...definitely a Zin for Cab drinkers...dark with pungent dark fruit and a bit overripe...nice mouthfeel with a medium finish. Hoping it will settle down tomorrow.

PnP from a 1 glass coravin pour. The nose is a Zin, with touches of Rutherford dust, cigar box, raisins, hint of brown sugar. Dark as night with that same inky glycerin look one finds in RB wines. Lovely mouthfeel, dried plums, more raisin, bramble, hint of red cherry, smells slightly like an overdone cab, the palate is more of a restrained Zin without the normal high pitched red fruit. Young indeed, will be interesting to follow over a couple of hours. Immediately popped rest in a decanter to follow. Needs a year or two of rest, but I couldn’t resist while the MacD was decanting, as I wanted to see if this is what I remembered,—it was!
At 1 hr of air, this became earthy and brambly, with more dried fruit and slight herbal notes, and still, as I remember from June 2021, unlike any other Zin I’ve had. This won’t convert me to Zins, but it’s a great wine and a nice change of pace for this cab drinker. 95 pts.
At 3 hrs, this has calmed down significantly and integrated nicely, though what remains is dried plums, cigar box, and raisins coated in maple syrup. 95 for me, though I am a bit of a homer on this one. Don’t drink a lot of Zins so not a lot of reference points.
2021 Napa - June 9-12: Heard about this small production Zin on WB and had to try even though I’m not a Zin fan. Well, I’m a fan of this Zin. Unapologetic and big, but not seemingly over baked and overcooked. Bold but balanced. Reminded me more of a Calistoga cab from a hot year. No hot fruit pie here! Blind I would have been completely confused in a great way. For the first time ever, I bought a Zin, actually 4 of them.

Oh my. This just doesn’t get better in my opinion. Huge fruit, complex, jammy. Glad I have more
