  • A pristine bottle which showed beautifully, with loads of lavender and licorice and a velvety texture. Runs against the tired stereotypes of Aussie Shiraz from this era. I would have thought it came from a much cooler climate if served blind. What a nice find!

  • Freaking fantastic!! Not overblown in any way, shape or form and still holding on VERY well. A little gamey on the nose with some dark chocolate, licorice, fruits and earth. Full bodied, dense and lip smacking good on the palate, leading to a bit of a spicy finish with tannins starting to resolve and some great acidity to back it up. This was one of the best Aussie Shiraz' I've had in a while. At $15 from Winebid, the price cannot be beat!!

  • Dean Hewitson has made some very fine wines that I love. This bottle is not up to prior bottlings. The aroma, while clean, fresh and showing lots of fruit, pepper and spice didn't have the power I've come to expect. Let's give it a pass and 91 pts, and wait on the next two. The concentration was not all there although several earlier bottles really struck my fancy to be sure.

  • Liked it. Held up well after vacuum capping and finishing two days later, meaning to me it still has some time left before it goes downhill. Good example of the style without being too over the top.

  • If I were allowed to make just one Barossa shriaz just to give to everyone and say "to me, it doesn't get much better than this" it would look, feel, and taste like this one.

It is just perfect to me. Nose of ripe sweet red fruits, exotic spices, it's just nose candy to me.

It is rich, broad, and powerful with layers of fruit, smoke, taosted oak, and pepperoni.

The finish is long and full with a continued attack on every tastebud well after the swirl and swallow. It still has much time in the bottle.
