First time having a Di Costanzo wine and it was pretty much a “wow.” Great structure and balance. The wine is young, but it has a restrained exuberance. The fruit is California, but not overblown at all. This is the third or fourth Coombsville Cabernet I’ve had and all have had the almost under ripe (in a good way) vibe. Given its structure and acidity, this could be really, really good in 10 years. Love it.
Similar to my notes from over a year ago on day one, so I’ll skip to day two: bright fresh blueberries, nice overall balance between acid/fruit but the tannins aren’t fully tamed. This needs more time! Saving my last bottle for at least two more years and if Erin is still patrolling CT, I’m definitely interested in opportunities to pick up more of these! Lol! Seriously, this is a lovely wine today, but will be much more integrated in a couple more years, at least …
Going against my better judgement, I opened this 2019 today (first 19, or even 18 for that matter). Initial thoughts: very bright, a little thin on the color, loads of fine tannins, mostly red fruits coming through at the beginning and some nice acidity. I love the nose on this. This is not your typical valley floor fruit bomb, instead it's well structured and balanced. Age is a friend to this guy! Anyway, I have 3 bottles left and I'm happy to have them. Giving it a 94, allowing some room to grow ...

Classic styled Cab. Leads with good acidity and some prominent tannins. Eucalyptus on the nose followed by nice blackberry fruit. A very lean profile that leaves you wishing for a bit more, though.
Napa day trip (Di Costanzo, Fantesca, Colgin) (Napa): Haunting aromas of dark red and blue fruits, damp dark earth, decaying oak (in a good way) and blue flowers. The nose is not as forward compared to the Farella but the aromas does make its presence known in a nice, subtle way.
Flavors are very similar to the nose. Flavors tend towards the darker spectrum but they're almost ethereal with great tension and freshness. Gently ripe blue fruits, with black fruits peeking through with some time, steeped tea and soft river stones. There is a fresh, clean berry note that adds a nice touch. Softly powdered graphite on finish.
A completely different style compared to the Farella but just as intriguing. Curious how this develops. Another strong 95.
