Second time with this wine. The first bottle shortly after it shipped was good but too monolithic to get a handle on. This one is still monolithic and hard to get a handle on, but it's starting to settle in to a more comfortable place. It's rich but not gloppy like the old style, dark-fruited and laced with gravel sensations and a touch of cedary toast.
Deep, dark garnet, essentially opaque in color. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & cassis with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, spices, herbs, graphite, tobacco, leather, anise, cocoa & a hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & silky smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, mulberries & cassis with spices, herbs, minerals, cocoa & a hint of oak/vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but should develop further with additional aging at which time it may merit a higher score (95+).

A matter of taste 2024 (Kongresshalle, Zürich): *** Brief notes from wine fair, primarily for my own memory *** Glass: Stölzle Universal Tasted 2020, 2019, 2016 and 2009. The latest vintages a clearly showing the same structure and terroir, but are very muted and closed. Hard to describe and not very approachable at the moment for me.

PNP services from a 375. Very muted on the nose and palate. Hard to judge this wine on based on the approach. Definitely unlike some Troplong's I've tried early in the past.

A proper decant or hands off for now.
No score.
