PHILLY CT GATHERING Dr Crane A “bonus bottle” brought by Sean, and the youngest vintage of the group. A bit more over the top in terms of the rich blue and black fruits, a little less finesse than the others, perhaps a victim only of its youth, or the “heavier hand” of Venge. Oak was a bit more prominent. This was delicious and decadent, but suffered slightly compared to the others tasted last evening. Alcohol a bit more obvious, but less so than the myriad Thanks for sharing Sean!
My second bottle of Crane I brought along as a bonus. I decanted this for ~90 minutes before service. While most wines we drank were 2014/2018, I felt like this 2019 needed a bit more time to resolve itself. 16.2% abv, it certainly came in a bit hot, but was more nuanced than the 2018 Myriad Mike Smith concoction from an earlier flight. This improved in the glass after getting more air. I took the rest of this bottle home and will see how it drinks after some more air. 94 for now, with room for improvement. Sadly, my only bottle.

Surprised Carol with a bottle of this for my birthday meal and her early Valentine's Day meal....
Two hour decant, back into the bottle then popped tableside. Rich, decadent red fruit. Caramel, vanilla and oak on the nose and palate. We could not help but finish the bottle tableside with dinner. Went very well with Veal Alexander.....
Note: at the very end with about 4 hours of total airtime, the oak became even more pronounced. Maybe too much? But the fruit is just exquisite throughout.....a beautiful wine.
We absolutely loved this wine. The Beckstoffer stuff is consistently good but this outclasses most that I can remember. It needs some decant time, but the flavors are dark and intense and layered. Lots of baking spice and some chocolate and mocha notes. Also dark chocolate covered cherries. So good. And will just get better

Two hour decant. Very deep dark ruby color. Mulberry, burnt graham cracker, and blueberry compote on the nose. Smooth, dry palate. Very firm, full tannins on the long finish.
Despite the description, this was drinking very tight. My rating is purely based on potential at this stage. Give this at least a year and a few hour decant. It will be bottled next week.
