One off ($125) from Napa cellerage #1 a couple of months ago. On the nose and palate, robust notes of black cherries, dark berries, black currants, cassis, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, dark earth, char and graphite. Dark burgundy, full bodied, thick legs. Big tannins and acidity, integrating progressively with air, no heat. Powerful complexity, persistence and intensity. Pretty much singing out of the bottle but smoothing out with 45 mins-hour of air, this was in my absolute sweet spot, a great mix of New World and Old, structure and fruit. Appealingly dark with enough fruit and acidity to keep the project from going full bore gothic, this excelled on its own and with a broiled pork chop, if not quite as much with spinach noodles pesto with prosciutto. Not unlike the recent ‘08 of the same, there’s a pretty intense core here, but this came together pretty quickly and immaculately, then held consistently through the last glass on night #2, indicating that, even if this is in peak drinking window, it should have several years at this level. Fabulous effort at this price point, reminiscent in qpr to the Smith-Petroski Larkmead LMVs of a similar era. Drink now or in the next several years, as long as you drink it with someone who’ll appreciate it. A banger. 96-97
Been over a year since my last one of these. Bottle very much like the last. I must say it drank at a strong 95 after an hour decant to about hour 3, when it softened a bit and backed off a point or two. Comparing this one against the 93 pt '07 Kapcsandy the other night is easy. That wine drank a little older and more simply, than this one. This fruit is darker and stronger right from the pnp into a decanter. Seems fresher, more vibrant......very enjoyable and not fading or on its way out as the Kaps bottle appeared to be. Very close to a 96 again, for me, especially early on.

Deep garnet. Nose a touch alcoholic, coffee, black fruits. Taste moderate, shorter finish, coffee, hint of tobacco. Overall OK, not worth the entry cost.

Deep garnet. Nose of black fruits, anise, hint of pepper. Mouth of licorice, black fruits, smooth. Taste lingers only about 20 seconds.

Delicious and vibrant. Better with minimal decanting at this point in evolution.
