  • Twenty Years On Wines, Some Luxury at Home; 4/19/2024-5/9/2024 (Alicante y Madrid - España): Hardly open by The Durand two hours in advance lunch. According with my own standard a low quality cork in a perfect condition. Dusty Ruby colour with orangery edges. Masculine Sangiovese alright but very rioja-like on the nose with notes of red berries, moist earth, leather, black truffle, cigar box, graphite, what else do you want? Quiet complexity indeed. Also pretty Rioja on the palate with a medium body, extremely nice acids, light structure, decent length and depth, tannic finish. Unbalanced high alcohol level (14.5 ABV) that burns your stomach. After all a lovely twenty years old Brunello. My kind of wine. Nothing like appreciating a well aged wine. Loyal to its modern style, the last glass the better.

  • I let it open up for about 1.5 hours. Little fruit, acidic. Was probably 92-93 a few years ago.

  • Definitely on the downside of the drinking range, but after a short decant it drank for nicely as it approaches 20 years of age. Still has some remaining fruit. Threw quite a bit of sediment. This was my last bottle, so I am grateful my wife and I consumed it now rather than later!

  • Fruit is surprisingly steady. Tannins and acidity are also in good shape. Long beautiful finish!
