  • Opened and decanted for four hours. Poured into bottle again and enjoyed it next night. What a distinguished bouquet and an elegant balance! The quintessence of Pomerol.

  • I've been opening up a few 2009 in the las few months and this was comparatively a disappointment.

Even after a 4 hour decant it was incredibly chewy and raw, but more concerning I didn't find any depth and luxury that suggests in another 10 years it will be a different experience, it simply had a rather tart blueberry taste with limited complexity compared to any other 2009 I have had so far.

I'll let the other 5 bottles sleep, maybe they surprise me.

  • 375ml. PnP. Beautiful nose, clean, expressive, and floral. Dark and ripe fruits with good acidity to keep it lively. Fine and smooth tannins abound but approachable. Excellent density and length with lingering aftertaste. A touch spicy too. A huge Pomerol with excellent balance, this is advancing at fairly slow pace vs previous bottles, should last 40 to 50 years. It’s at the 3rd inning of a baseball game with plenty of walk on base and foul balls. Good wine now with plenty of potential to improve further.

  • Full decant for 2 hours then back into the bottle to slow ox for another 2hours before enjoying tableside at a quaint French restaurant in Ft. L before our concert tonight.

Dark garnet/purple in the glass. Throughout the entire 6 total hours of airtime the nose remained the show, though it did need about an hour for the mild funk to blow off. Wafts of lavender, tobacco and cassis with an ever so slight perfume element followed and stayed the rest of the time, which not a lot of wines will do.....

The palate reveals lots of dark berries, dense cassis, a bit of briar/forest floor and a little spicy herbal component from the (10% Cab Franc) accompanying the wonderful Merlot. Enjoyed with a very hearty French onion soup, traditional escargot and duck L'orange. Enjoy now with at least 4-6 hours of air, maybe more. This is probably THE most masculine Merlot I've ever had. Had there been any Cabernet/graphite component at all, I would have sworn this one came from St. Estephe and not Pomerol. Looking at Parker's reviews of it he once said this one would drink out to 2070. Who am I to doubt him? I'd be 110 yo by then, lol but it definitely has a long time ahead of it........92-93 early on, 96 with the full airtime of 4-6 hours. Maybe even better with more air or time?

  • Lots of primary dark plum, blueberry, spices and some earthy notes on the nose, really generous almost mouth coating fruit on the palate with fine well integrated ripe tannins , medium acidity and medium plus finish
