Tasted by gukarl on 11/6/2009 & rated 88 points: Very nice, fine dark fruit. (929 views)

Tasted by Anonymous on 7/5/2009 & rated 88 points: Black licorice on the nose. Dark fruit, black licorice, leather, bitter dark chocolate on the palate. Much darker flavors and heavier than I remember. Always a favorite. (1198 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 5/10/2009 & rated 88 points: Needs to open but dark cherries and bricks and good with pepperoni pizza (1323 views)
Tasted by dougdell on 3/25/2009 & rated 86 points: Not impressed at this second bottling from a great Brunello. A bit mundane. (1456 views)
Tasted by uncle_fester on 3/15/2009 & rated 89 points: Nice meaty quality. Great baby Brunello. (1500 views)

Tasted by pbjosh on 7/27/2008 & rated 87 points: This wine is finally rounding out some... rich dark fruit. Drying wood tannin remains. This wine could be fresher and have less wood... but it's a perfectly acceptable drink none the less. Probably will continue to round out and drink well for the next year or two... (1628 views)
Tasted by mwagner7700 on 7/6/2008 flawed bottle: Wet basement, cardboard.... and an almost sherry-like nose. Obviously this one was bad. No Score. (1896 views)
Tasted by billyg on 7/5/2008 & rated 89 points: Dark licorice with black cherry and some mud on the nose. Cassis followed by muddy licorice. Sour cherry finish. Good food wine, well made. (1893 views)
 Tasted by ZR1001 on 5/17/2008 & rated 86 points: (1841 views)
Tasted by billyg on 3/30/2008 & rated 89 points: Cherry and mint on the nose. Cherry iwth some earthiness, vanilla, mint. Oak and sour cherry finish. (2381 views)
Tasted by mwagner7700 on 3/8/2008 & rated 90 points: This was a great find on WTSO for $14. Beautiful cherry, earth/stone with a hint of sour red fruit... almost a cranberry-type taste. The sour wasn't offputting in the least and added to the over complexity with some barnyard and herb flavors on the back. While I wouldn't go so far to call this a baby Brunello, the cherry really sings and makes this a great 'substitute' for Brunello at a Chianti price. 89-91 points. (2463 views)
Tasted by Maverick on 3/7/2008 & rated 87 points: Fun Table Wine drinker. Nothing overly crazy or complex. Hints of a Brunello but light and approachable (2549 views)
Tasted by messiahmoose on 3/3/2008: Really opened up the 2nd day. A value but I wasn't blown away. I think it will definitely improve over the next few years. (2595 views)
Tasted by JSHinson on 2/22/2008 & rated 89 points: Lighter than I expected, with more fruit. Still has hints of that characteristic "baby-brunello" style. Irrespective of price, it's a good wine, price considered, probably 89, it's a high QPR kind of thing. (2570 views)
Tasted by uncle_fester on 1/17/2008 & rated 90 points: Really interesting. Cherries and Chef Boyardee meat sauce on the nose and palate. Some floral qualities on the back palate, especially the second day. Mushrooms, a little barnyard. Lots going on here. Hearty. I'm stunned how complex this wine is. A lot of wine for $18 bucks. (2969 views)
Tasted by fallen on 12/30/2007 & rated 80 points: Lots of tannins, almost sour. Wasn’t thrilled with the taste as the tanning overpowered the rest. I let it sit for an hour but that didn’t change much. Not very happy with this wine. I may use the remaining bottles for cooking. (3028 views)

The Casanova di Neri farm began in 1971 when Giovanni Neri bought a large estate within the territory of Montalcino. Over the years their continuing goal has been the search for and purchasing of land which they believe to be optimal for growing high quality grapes. The result is that today they have about 36 hectares of vineyards divided between four quite distinct areas: il Pietradonice in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, le Cetine in Sant'Angelo in Colle, il Cerretalto and il Fiesole near the farmhouse of the same name facing Montalcino. Recent accolades include a perfect WS 100-point score for the 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto and WS Wine of the Year honors for the 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova.
About Red Wines

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-veh-zeh"). Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
