Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 69 notes)

Tasted by markelln@bellsouth.net on 1/1/2010 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 1 hr before travelling to Burger & Beer Joint. My 92, Ellen's 90(she is not a fan of the vegetal notes from Cab Franc).Reached its peak after 1/2 hour at dinner. Good bouquet, still has plenty of rich black fruit, and a good finish.
In my opinion this wine went through a dumb stage several years ago, but has never acheived secondary development, and I doubt it will.
Bottom of cork broke off while using levered screwpull. Extracted remainder cleanly w classic screwpull. (277 views)

Tasted by vjdinmd on 12/25/2009 & rated 92 points: This was still amazing. Cork was very dry, but the wine was perfect.

Smooth, still great color, no brown, rich tasting, great finish. (310 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 12/6/2009 & rated 90 points: last bottle, still drinking well; drinke em if you've got em; thanks for a good run on this one DV (509 views)
Tasted by Sedation (yellowgas) on 11/19/2009 & rated 90 points: an enjoyable wine that was at its peak or slightly on the way down. a core of raspberry and dark stone fruits with very little if any tannins left. this is a soft wine with a delicate finish not for the big bold lovers, it would be a great wine but doesn't have the depth to support it's delicacy.  Tasted by Mark on 11/15/2009 & rated 89 points: My last tasting was back in 2005. This has evolved well, less fruit forward and intensity than I recall. Good concentration, aged leather and spice. Balanced with a medium long finish. I gave it 20 minutes of air, then it was consumed over 3 hours. Best at hour 1. I think, overall, I preferred it back in 2005, but this was still enjoyable and with plenty of life left. (625 views)
Tasted by TwoSmoochies on 11/1/2009 & rated 89 points: Jim thought it was an 88 and I thought it was a 90. Well balanced but not a lot of fruit (671 views)
Tasted by geodeemoore on 10/27/2009 & rated 93 points: (539 views)
Tasted by RR47 on 9/14/2009 & rated 91 points: Elegant Bordeaux blend, very much in harmony. Beautiful aroma the moment the cork popped. Cassis, leather, cedar and with 39% Cab Franc, some minor bell pepper notes. A complement to a grilled tenderloin. (807 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 9/13/2009 & rated 92 points: really briar patch and tannic even the first few hours out of the bottle; the fruit comes out the next morning; this baby has always been a 6-12 hour decant and it still is.... (806 views)
Tasted by islayman on 6/6/2009 & rated 92 points: Very good wine. Continues to age well. Decanted for 90 minutes. Well balanced. Good fruit flavors. (1136 views)
Tasted by RR47 on 5/30/2009 & rated 92 points: Medium Red, Complex nose, but cherries dominate initially. A slight green element (peppers?) in the background along with a pleasant earthiness. Very elegant and Bordeaux like in the mouth. Doing very well at this stage. (1176 views)
Tasted by tacman on 2/21/2009 & rated 87 points: (1047 views)
Tasted by markelln@bellsouth.net on 2/1/2009 & rated 91 points: Much better than from 1/2 bottle 3 years ago. Similar to Heitz Martha's Vinjeyard w Eucalpytus notes. Decanted for an hour or so. A little tight, rebottled the 2nd half w/o PEK and had it the 2nd night when with the additional aeration the wined showed richer.
Should only get better from here. (1606 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 1/25/2009 & rated 91 points: Elegant cassis, dark berry, plum and spice flavors, nicely textured and nice structure. Long finish. (1419 views)
 Tasted by shaferguy91 on 1/23/2009 & rated 90 points: 1.5 hour decant. (1454 views)
Tasted by rjeman2000 on 12/31/2008 & rated 94 points: Winner of our NYE tasting which included Tignanello and Rubicon. Decanted for five hours beforehand, and this could not have been smoother. Buttered cedar on the nose, with pure crushed dark plum, mocha, and dark cherries on palate. Finished with unmistakable cola. Balanced and integrated, this was the best bottle of several recent '99 Viaders I've opened. (1439 views)
Tasted by numcwrt2 on 12/27/2008 & rated 92 points: Previous bottles of this were less than memorable. This however showed quite well with a 6 hour Slow O. Tasted upon opening and there wasn't much going on. At dinner, the nose was powerful showing graphite, earth, licorice and dark fruit. The palate started off strong but unfortunately quickly died at the mid. I know I am missing some descriptors as the nose was very complex but I wasn't taking formal notes. Not sure if this will get better with any additional age as I wish I had another bottle or 2 to test over the next 5 years. (1462 views)
Tasted by Haltermr on 12/21/2008 & rated 90 points: Perfumed and elegant nose of black and red cherries, dried leaves, graphite, dusty mushroom, mint, bell pepper, and some purple flowers. Nice mouthfeel on entry and midpalate but it then falls off, with a disappointing entry into the finish and some medium coarse tannins on a 10 second finish. Overall a nice wine. (1469 views)

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
