Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 13 notes)

Tasted by jcurl on 11/28/2009 & rated 88 points: Past its prime. Took forever to open up and then wasn't really worth the wait. No structure and little nose left. Drink up!! (111 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 5/15/2009: good (331 views)
Tasted by lawdog85 on 5/14/2009 & rated 90 points: MUST be decanted for at least an hour. Was very slow to open up, but thereafter was wonderful. Big nose, very purple hue. Chocolate and dark fruit. An excellent blend. (341 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 11/21/2008 & rated 91 points: Dark purple color.
Lots of dark purple ripe fruit. Melted licorice and blueberries. Chocolate, cassis. Classic New World styled Cabernet blend.
Nice oak. Almost too much, but harnessed after being laid down for a few years perhaps.
Definitely looking foraward to trying the '05 in the cellar. (409 views)
Tasted by boegemann on 7/4/2008 & rated 90 points: Picked up a bottle after having at Stoney River in Nashville in June of 2007 with the CTO Leadership Team. Decanted 3 hours; beautiful, deep purple coloring, very nice extraction and full-bodied. Blatant nose of truffles... truffles for days! Specifically, truffle oil. Wrapped up nicely with blackberry and vanilla cream. Excellent pairing with a strip steak grilled Santa Maria style. Not quite sure about the QPR. As much as I liked the wine, I believe there are Meritages just as good (Tapestry, for example) for lower cost. If under $40, then buy. (542 views)
Tasted by Grinder on 1/18/2008 & rated 90 points: Cork was perfect, with fairly heavy sediment upon decant. Based upon prior reviews, wasn't sure what to expect from this lonely bottle. Really enjoyed the nose, but still skeptical. Poured after only 30 minutes and was surprised. Good structure, nice smooth tannins, dark cherries, a hint of chocolate, currants. This is still a young wine. At least I know not to order this bottle at the BA First Class Lounge, London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 or Morton's The Steakhouse (very helpful!). Not saying it is a good value wine at the $50+ I paid for it while happily hammered at the winery, but it is a very good wine. (933 views)
Tasted by Dulcie and Aylwin on 10/6/2007: If I had actually paid what these other tasters had for this wine I would travelled all the way to California and demanded my money back. At this price point, the wine should not be ordinary. On the nose I found it had a pleasing floral/oaky aroma. On the palate it lived up to the Bordeaux Blend description, evoking a little of the Medoc. I found it extremely closed in yet, which is perhaps the source of the lack of acclaim. Still, there are hundreds of wines at a better price. (1030 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 5/30/2007: Nice (1109 views)
Tasted by winewood on 3/3/2007 & rated 79 points: Average bottle of wine. No explosion of fruit. Better to use this for cooking rather than drinking. (1192 views)
Tasted by 3dvw on 2/17/2007 & rated 90 points: Nice wine. A bit too pricey for what it is. (1131 views)
Tasted by Tourette Spice on 2/16/2007 & rated 86 points: Tried this at Morton's The Steakhouse. (1246 views)
Tasted by jamieirving on 9/16/2006 & rated 85 points: With a rich purple hue this Cab Sauv, Merlot and Cab Franc blend shows aromas of summer berries on the nose. The palate displays a nice cherry fruit character with a darker hint of tar and menthol. Well structured with good rounded tannins. Very nice.

Tasted in the BA First Class Lounge, London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 (1439 views)
Tasted by jcurl on 7/29/2006 & rated 91 points: Good solid Meritage for a not completely insane price. Fruit forward, moderate tannins, should lay down well. (1311 views)

About red wine
The variety Red Bordeaux Blend on CellarTracker implies any blend using any or all of the five traditional Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. As such, this is used worldwide, whether for wines from Bordeaux, Meritages from California and Canada, some Super-Tuscan wines etc.
WineAmerica (National Association of American Wineries) | Free the Grapes!
California Wines (Wine Institute of California)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
