Yeah, this is as good as a proper villages wine is gonna get. Doesn't have any unpleasant green 2004 notes (which show up in the whites too). Great balance and no reduction here -- delicate and fruity, but with the proper 2004 acidity and the classic rich Carillon profile. Mature, but in no danger of decline anytime soon.

Sad to see my last bottle of this go…..another killer village 04 from Carillon! VERY similar to my last note almost 4yrs ago to the day….creamy yellow orchard fruit, with green apple tartness and hue…..BIG spice and fresh squeezed lemon citrus…chalky and dusty, saline minerality with a little marine funk. The 04 verve is crazy…..and the age has brought out some nice honey and truffle butter notes….white flower, peach blossom florals are pretty. Drinks WAY more than its village! Can't ask for more of this bottle…..awesome!

White Burgundy Dinner (Amali): Light in color. Lots of green apple, high acid and much lighter in weight, very fresh with good mineral character, not much development. A surprisingly good pairing with my garlic shrimp starter. An excellent villages.

(Carillon Louis Puligny-Montrachet) Pale yellow. The nose launches forward with ripe, citrus edged fruit before settling into a more brioche dominated lime fruit. The palate retains the citrus edge to its sweet fruit, though the key attribute is the mouthwatering acidity. This wine exemplifies perfectly the vintage - lovely aromatics and fresh presentation - yet it also shows the achilles heel, just not quite enough density at the villages level for enjoying on its own - perfect with food though! One glass was left overnight in the open bottle in the refridgerator, it was as fresh as the night before.
(Louis Carillon Puligny-Montrachet) Nice, light nose of lemon chiffon and toasty oak; oily, very accessible, lemon and silky texture, medium finish 90 pts.

Delivers, in weight and complexity, a lot more than you bargain for from a village wine. Terrific citrus and minerality. My last bottle, sniff sniff.
