Tasted by jcvaughan on 5/30/2010: BBQ'ing with Brian, Karen, Ken and Kelly (The Scotts (Landenberg, PA)): Mushroom, mint, cherries, and fine tannins. Ann didn't like the nose on this. Tasty. (483 views)

Tasted by NY Pete on 4/26/2010: a quick 60 minutes to breathe and this wine is singing ... slight bricking ... good aromatics ... textured mouthfeel ... good fruit ... good acidity ... very smooth ... lingering finish ... an outstanding example of brunello. (595 views)
Tasted by depdoc on 3/2/2010 & rated 91 points: Raisins and spice still predominate the aroma. The wine is smooth with little tannin. (866 views)
Tasted by jesran on 3/1/2010 & rated 90 points: Probably decanted too long. Opened full day beforehand and put cork back in hoping to get best out of the wine on a special night. No doubt it went really nice with fish, but not mind blowing. Earthy, perfumey, and well balanced... I agree with the raisin note on the palate. Tannins are completely mellowed. It's nice. It just seemed to lose something from the last time. I remember more acid 6 months ago. (875 views)
Tasted by benny on 2/24/2010 & rated 93 points: Last bottle. Raisin and spicies. It's all there nose, palate and long finish.
Not your normal Brunello. Drink now. (1081 views)
Tasted by benny on 1/12/2010 & rated 93 points: Aged well. Great to drink now. Wish I had bought more on Cinderella. (1273 views)

Tasted by DRod on 1/3/2010: My first Brunello so I'll withhold the score, but overall a very pleasant wine that I'd probably rate 90. Cork was looking a little iffy, and I think it might've accelerated aging of this 10-year old wine. On first open tannins were harsh and unfriendly. I gave it a four hour decant. Fairly clear bricking, wine is crimson in color. On the nose you get a strong hit of raisins and maybe baking spices. On the palate you get a restrained mix of red/dark fruit with good mouthfeel and structure. Tannins were less aggressive on four-hour decant and the wine was actually fine for drinking by itself. It really sang with my venison though, and nicely paired with my girlfriend's rich duck as well. Bright acidity makes it great for pairing with food. (1337 views)
Tasted by depdoc on 12/16/2009 & rated 90 points: This wine has finally come around. Now the nose is raisin and spice, and it has become a delightful wine. (1420 views)
Tasted by Sijan on 12/14/2009 & rated 88 points: Enjoyable. Cork was a little iffy and bottle was a bit oxidized. Has a sort of roasted, nutty, woody quality on the nose indicative of age. Also some sweet notes of raisin, vanilla and licorice on the nose. The fruit is very restrained. Mild, pleasant woodiness on palate and fairly long finish. Tannins are mild but slightly drying. Fairly high acidity with a bit of VA, but still pleasant to drink. 88-89 pts. (1410 views)
Tasted by rjrausch on 12/8/2009 & rated 88 points: Sour cherry, raisin and pipe tobacco on the nose. It feels like a port to me. As I sit over this wine and ponder it, I get more and more interested by it. Initially I am turned off but I keep coming back for more. Now on my third glass I still can't determine what I think of it, but it keeps getting better. Not tannic or hot. Long finish. Some blackberry. In the matter of 20 minutes I raised my score from 82 to 88. This is the oldest wine I have tried so I probably am not able to appreciate it's experience. I'm glad I bought this and looking forward to opening the other 2 bottle over the next 2 years to see how it changes. (1475 views)
Tasted by ebrown35 on 11/5/2009 & rated 92 points: Nice medium color with some bricking at the rim. Beautiful nose of black cherry, spice, shoe leather, & tobacco. Wonderful fruit up front with a substantial midpalate that has a little licorice note, balanced by medium acidity and resolved tannins. Great mouthfeel and really a pleasant drink. (2139 views)
 Tasted by hurrican1 on 7/30/2009 & rated 87 points: (1936 views)
Tasted by depdoc on 3/24/2009 & rated 88 points: Still very tannic. Needs more time. Lots of potential. (2197 views)

About Red Wines

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-veh-zeh"). Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
