| | Tasted by Anonymous on 7/7/2010: Opened on Monday, 1.5 glasses consumed, dominated by burnt rubber and dark fruits; skipped a night, and on Weds., gloriosky. Rubber tones more subdued, wonderful balance good acidity and soft tannins, capped by a great finish of fruit and dried grasses that makes me wish there were more than 2 oz remaining. (366 views) |

I guess it's stem inclusion giving the tell tale aroma but whatever it was, it's becoming a common occurence with bottles from Rhys we drink - and I love it. More black fruited than red but both were there in just a very tasty bottle of wine. Can't figure out how to explain what I found in the body - it's a much more tightly knit, silky mouth feel than in other syrahs we've had recently. (385 views) |

Popped / poured. On the nose, I don't get any of the funk/barnyard others describe. Instead, fragrant red berries and a bit of floral perfume. On the palate, medium-light in weight, with a mouthfeel that suggests a tannic pinot. A fair amount of acidity and fine tannins take center stage, and seemingly overwhelm the fruit. This would be better with the right food pairing. It's not a good candidate for a stand-alone drinker. (597 views) |

| | Tasted by rwstorer on 2/5/2010 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured with Moutondoc. Blackish red in color with aromas of spice and black fruit. Complex flavors of up front pepper, integrated black fruit and more pepper on the finish. Really nice to drink. (889 views) |
| | Tasted by wineandgolover on 1/25/2010 & rated 86 points: drank over two days. dark purple. dark fruit and wet horse on nose. meat and iron on the palate. traditional type syrah. interesting if not hedonistic. I'd have guessed Crozes Hermitage blind. I think some might really love this. I think I'll pop one of their pinots tonight, I like them better. (966 views) |
| | Tasted by jc-mmb on 1/16/2010 & rated 86 points: some nice notes of earth and dark fruit, but a stemmy aroma detracts. didn't blow off. thin mid palate for a syrah and short but fruitful finish. (909 views) |

| | Tasted by Cow Town on 12/19/2009 & rated 87 points: Second bottle of three. First day was tight, dark, and somewhat unpleaseant. The funk (stewed vegetables? barnyard?) mostly blew off by day two. More meat and earth, but the fruit was definitely hiding. Will wait several years before opening the third bottle. (1068 views) |
| | Tasted by scott davis on 12/9/2009 & rated 89 points: Opened, not decanted. Inky dark purple in color. There's a prevalent must of sulphur and burnt soy on the nose. The palate shows ripe blue fruit, beefsteak, pepper, and black olive notes which exhibit depth, balance, good texture, and a medium-long finish. Though many nice elements exist, I suspect this might be a divisive wine due to the unique bouquet. (1409 views) |

| | Tasted by Wine Drinker on 11/3/2009 & rated 89 points: Deep red. Much different than when last tasted in March 2008, still smells meaty but I don't detect the smoke or mustiness that I noticed before and now I pick up a little spiciness. The wine has a better mouth feel (less dryness) and seems a little more elegant and in balance. Finish is rather short. I appreciate that this is not a fruit bomb like many California Syrahs. | | Tasted by Greg Pierce on 10/23/2009: Inky opaque purple. Dark fruits, red fruits, some bacon, olive, with a little heat on the nose. Dark fruits, good acidity, with a bit of a bitter, mocha finish. Quite good. (1462 views) |

| | Tasted by blondon on 7/22/2009: Popped and poured. Typical Alesia funk filled nose. Earthy, olive tapenade, great fruit and elegance. (1827 views) |
| | Tasted by CMCLR on 7/17/2009 & rated 85 points: Has some serious funk on the nose. Too stinky to get a higher score. (1883 views) |
| | Tasted by conform on 7/8/2009: Some funky vegetal notes on the nose that blew off a bit with air; better in the mouth. (1967 views) |
| | Tasted by djb on 5/29/2009 & rated 86 points: This is just isn't working for me...probably should have cellared longer....jasonh has nailed the grapefruit element in this wine, and it's not really a plus in my book, though keeps the palate lively. But the fruit is somewhat MIA at this stage..... (1876 views) |

| | Tasted by WetRock on 4/30/2009: Plenty of pepper over the nose and a well balanced palate. Probably could have used more air to let the fruit come to fore more at this point but makes for a nice dinner wine in contrast to many Cali Syrahs. (2005 views) |
| | Tasted by jasonh on 4/6/2009 & rated 89 points: As stinky as the last time. As normal with Fairview, it is like there is a pile of grapefruits and someone is doing a burnout on them. This would not be for everyone. After 3 days the smell is the same. I like it but it can wear on you. Big grapefruit flavors as well. This wine is so intense. It really didn't budge after 3 days. On the 3 day the finish did begin to even out but it is still aggressive. I won't be touching my other bottles for many years. (2073 views) |
