(Buzzini House): Beautiful and pretty wine...light bodied, but packed with floral spices, baking spice, candied cherry/strawberry fruit. Needs more time...but should be killer in 5+. (403 views) | | | Tasted by herberto on 6/20/2009 & rated 92 points: Pretty and farily delicate for a Morey. Light bodied and crystal clear. But developed a nice richness in the glass over the course of the meal. The Roumier did not disappoint, with forward fruit on the nose, with red cherry fruit and nice mineral complexity. Fine and balance rounds out with some stone, floral, and dense. Structure and tannin are there for some 5-10 years of aging, and I would imagine take on additional characters. The wine shutdown at the end of our steak dish, but the pairing was wonderful. Thanks, sehill. (531 views) | | | Tasted by sehill on 3/26/2009 & rated 92 points: This wine was opened and poured. This is drinking well now and a big relief after recently tasting the 2004 version of this that did now show well. This wine shows elegant aromatics of red cherry, spices and floral notes. There is wonderful elegance on the bouquet coupled with good complexity and enough accessibility to drink well now. The color is medium ruby that is youthful and correct. The medium bodied palate relies on refinement and balance. The wine does shut and become more stern an hour after opening. This is wine that drinks well now and should benefit from a couple years of bottle age. The first thing that comes to mind is extreme crystalline delicacy. So complex, yet so soft with aromas of spices, fresh cut flowers, crushed wild berries, cherries, and concrete. The palate as expected is more forceful but very pure and lifted with flavors of fresh sweet cherries, raspberry, and hints of oak on the generous finish. This is quite different from the others in that it is structured but the firm tannins are underlying and seem to be balanced more by the fresh acidity and fruit density. Drinking gorgeously but I can’t help but think this will improve with time as well. Kills you with delicacy. 94+ (583 views) |
| By Bill Nanson Burgundy-Report (4/1/2009) (Roumier Georges Morey St.Denis Clos de la Bussière) Very forward fruit on the nose - a meange of red fruits. Fresh, with a lovely 'mouth perfume' and shows a super width all the way to the finish. Very nice flavour on the finish. Reasonably tannic but a nice overall balance. A very tasty, precocious bottle. | NOTE: Scores and reviews are the property of the Burgundy-Report. (manage subscription channels) |
| About red wine
Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne)
Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.
