Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 5 notes)

 Tasted by philhamelin on 2/6/2010: Definitely not your apéritif white. Intriguing nose: dense, pungent, almost perfumed. First sip is a bit jarring. While fresh, there is some torque here. The texture and flavour, as close as I could figure it, reminded me of creamy melon mixed with something ancestral, as if an old Slovenian oak cask imparted just a memory of what it once was. You sense the barrel, just don’t taste it. The main grape is ribolla gialla, and this is one of the more unique wines I have tasted in awhile. Drink now-2011. Food pairing: rich fish and seafood, worked wonders with my spicy shrimp creole and rice. (36 views)

Flavors: Fresh pear, ripe apple, white peach. Hint of mineral on a moderately long finish.

Luca Mazzoleni: Notoriamente la Ribolla Gialla è un bianco duale: naso spaziale su bocca avara. Quante sono le Ribolla che fanno eccezione a questa curiosa discrasia del vitigno ? Nessuna, direi io. Radikon, Gravner, Primosic, Damijan, Il Carpino... tutte le migliori degli ultimi millesimi (97, 98, 99) sovrappongono compendi olfattivi memorabili a progressioni gustative di un'essenzialità (a volte fin piattezza) spiazzante.
