| | Tasted by Senator503 on 1/22/2010 & rated 91 points: Dark cranberry color; very bright. Earthy red fruit on the nose. Cherry juice flavors dominate the initial attack, but it transitions into an unmistakable dark cocoa back palate. Still fairly tight tannins; well structured. Very nice effort. (260 views) |
| | Tasted by MusicAndWines on 1/19/2010 & rated 90 points: This wine is a smooth operator. Perfectly balanced and velvety in my mouth with no bite at all. A perfect wine for those beginning venturing into reds.
Before reading anything about this wine, I could taste some of the minerals from the soil. Then after reading the back of the bottle I knew it had something to do with the proximity to the sea. It is amazing when you can taste geography; it comes through in this wine. Other flavors that came to mind were dark fruit berries and a touch of nuts. The nose was a bit weak, but the taste and finish made up for it. I think this wine will taste even better after an hour or two decant, something I should have done. (376 views) |
| | Tasted by rhps00 on 1/17/2010 & rated 89 points: Vinturi aerated to decanter for two hours. Then drank over next 2-3 days. Nose of black raspberry ice cream and garrigue. Dark cocoa and generic black fruit in the mouth. Pleasant plum finish, lacking a little acidity and still a touch tannic. (417 views) |
| | Tasted by Anonymous on 1/15/2010 & rated 89 points: P&P, and perhaps that's what made a positive difference relative to the last couple bottles that were decanted. More lively, energetic fruit, and profile shows more cherry notes with chocolate in the finish, per my original note. Spouse commented blindly she enjoyed this a lot. (415 views) |
| | Tasted by PSUSteve on 1/8/2010 & rated 89 points: extremely smooth with very little finish; did not experience the alcohol on the back end that others mentioned (424 views) |
| | Tasted by Sakas on 1/2/2010 & rated 89 points: Strawberry and garrigue on the nose. A little mushroom as well. Rich dark red fruit and herbs in the mouth. Silky texture through the midpalate before a slightly astringent finish. Everyone loved it. (452 views) |
| | Tasted by Anonymous on 12/27/2009 & rated 87 points: Third bottle in a month, and this experience was similar to the last. Aerate to decanter and immediate serve. Color as before shows no sign of age; this was well-cellared, just like the others. Restrained nose of cool dark plums, earth, nuts, and a little alcohol. Smooth dark fruit on the palate is plentiful and tasty but largely nondescript. Again the acidity seems quite low and the minerals are more in the background. Smooth tannins lend a lovely structure. By no means hot, but for me the 14 alcohol is more noticeable than it was seven months ago. Still at least very good quality, but disappointing in that it is less distinctive, less memorable. Unsure whether to just drink the rest of the bottles soon (and quickly), or wait a year or more and hope this improves from where it is. (592 views) |
| | Tasted by njAndrew on 12/26/2009 & rated 90 points: Much better then the last bottle, time has done this wine well. Dark purble color with some legs (14%+ alco) but didn't feel the heat. Dark fruit with smooth tannins that are still there but not harsh. Seams to be drinking well now but has more time, will have next bottle in a few months and am sure it will be great. (599 views) |
| | Tasted by Anonymous on 12/17/2009 & rated 88 points: Aerate to decanter and immediate serve. Lots of purple tones on cherry red. Either an off bottle, in a dumb phase, or this wine is may be on the backside of its peak. Reticent nose of plummy grape, a little flowery iris, a bit of mineral, and roasted chestnut. Much of the same on the palate, with cool smooth dark plums mixed with earth, some chocolate and minerals. This is delicious and certainly smooth, but I am missing the acidity, the freshness of the fruit, and some of the nuances that were there in earlier days. On the other hand, the tannins are moderate, about the same as they were, and a little alcohol noticeable in the finish. Will drink another this Holiday Season, and if suspicion is confirmed it might be better to drink the remainder of the case sooner. (633 views) |
| | Tasted by gsimd on 12/15/2009: After a couple of hours of air this wine had a very cool nose of black olive, roses and watermelon rind. More austere than expected. A nice wine. (720 views) |
| | Tasted by Anonymous on 11/26/2009: Decanted a couple hours before Thanksgiving feast, but we never got to it. Returning to it after ten hours in an open air decanter, it did not fare well. Aromas and flavors of grapey plum are unfocused and dominated by earth and chalky tannins. Still one of my favorite wines at this price point, but a lesson learned that this drinks much better when freshly aerated. (762 views) |

| | Tasted by benny on 10/1/2009 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured. Now this has a real nose. First fig and minerals and later in the bottle granite. The finish was still persistantly long. Somewhat food specific. Had some characteristics of a Burgundy. (1230 views) |

| | Tasted by marcw23 on 8/31/2009 & rated 89 points: Nose of dark fruit and smoke. Very velvety tannins and dark cherry on the palate. Somewhat short finish with very little heat. Overall a great wine, tannins were somewhat dry at first, but really smoothed out later, especially on the 2nd day. (1370 views) |

| | Tasted by cweiss on 8/5/2009: Palate with attractive Rhonish fruit, good depth. Too tannic for Glenna. Will try again in another year. (1613 views) |
| | Tasted by z_willus_d on 8/2/2009 & rated 89 points: 2+ hr decant. Medium light ruby color showing a little more opacity than liquid serenity. NOSE- tight leather with a nip of sun-heated game blood, dark fruit black raspberry/cherry, hard and chewy black liquorish, dry road shrubs, and steamed grape leaves. PALATE- nice focus of rendered, pure cherry juice, then cracked pepper with the first wave of acid, next a slightly creamier version of the cherry flavors (think Thrifty's Black Cherry Ice Cream -- love that stuff), followed by the leather and country shrubs (inc. anise) on early finish with the 2nd acid wave at the end. This is really nice wine and it hits all the right spots with good complexity and leaving very little fodder by which to fault it. (1596 views) |
| | Tasted by mcook_ky on 7/28/2009 & rated 90 points: Fruity nose but that is it. The first drink was like biting into a piece of 75% chocolate with a touch of dark cherries (1660 views) |
