A little Parmesan helped cut the sweetness but, still a little too much sugar for our tastes. We have liked previous lots but, probably won't buy any more of this one. (152 views) |

I started sipping without food and the candied fruit was way too much for me, it was simply too sweet. I tried it again a few hours later with a spiced up alfredo sauce dish and it did the job. Overall, it was good with the spicy dish, but far too sweet to drink alone. (449 views) |

| | Tasted by j3w on 9/4/2009: I had a unique experience with OVR Lot 49. I popped the cork and poured a glass to be confronted with a nose of sweat socks and 2 Buck Chuck. I swirled and tasted, and was reminded of a $3 Chilean Carminere I'd bought to braise lamb (couldn't cook it all - had to try a glass...well a sip.) My first thought, "Whoa, I want my $11 back." I left it in the bottle and pondered my options - dump it? Pass it off to the little woman and open something good? Prior to taking a decision I poured a second glass. Completely changed character - decent, medium bodied red blend. Fruit, lots of cherry, a hint of spice, a very decent drinking low priced red blend. So, be warned. (628 views) |

The zin base is there for the fruit I enjoy but there is a greater interest with the other grapes blended in. We've shared this wine with several friends, all of whom enjoyed it. Our only bad experience was taking to a picnic on a HOT day and the wine got too warm. It was so fizzy it had a foamy top when poured but that is no fault of the wine! (686 views) |

This one had an interesting cedar quality, very Pauillac like when first opened, which then blew off to reveal the usual array of fruit, smoke, and spice that makes these wines so damn nice. Cannot say enough good things about these wines given what they deliver for the price. Whoever thought of combining zin with petite sirah and carignan clearly knew what they were doing. (702 views) |
