| I opened several Pinot Grigios that had arrived over the past few months as press samples . All were tasted single blind. - 2008 Summerhill Pyramid Winery Pinot Gris - Canada, British Columbia, Okanagan Valley, Okanagan Valley VQA
SRP: $20. Under-ripe pear, tart apple, and gray, earthy, minerality. Interesting, but a bit funky on the nose earthiness. Well-balanced palate. A very short finish. (85 pts.)
- 2010 Robert Oatley Pinot Grigio James Oatley TIC TOK - Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
SRP: $14. A hugely aromatic nose with ripe lemons, fresh pears, some green apples, and a hint of honey. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with refreshing acidity. (87 pts.)
- 2009 Swanson Pinot Grigio - USA, California, Napa Valley
SRP: $22. A wonderful nose of fresh white peaches, super ripe lemons, some melon, vanilla, and marzipan. On the palate, lots of citrus notes come through – it’s wonderfully balanced, with ripe fruits and great acidity. (90 pts.)
- 2010 Cultivate Pinot Grigio Double Blind - Italy, Veneto, Veneto IGT
SRP: $17. Ripe nose of fresh pears, McIntosh apples, white flowers, sweet lemon, and almond. The palate has lively acidity, but doesn’t have nearly as much depth or concentration as the nose. Quite simple. (86 pts.)
- 2010 Robert Oatley Pinot Grigio Adelaide Hills - Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
SRP: $16. Hugely aromatic. Ripe apple and fresh white flowers, along with some spiciness and minerality. The palate has a wonderful weight to it – it’s both crisp-yet-concentrated, with a lively, long finish. (89 pts.)
