  • 2011 Gypsy Canyon Winery Pinot Noir Trois - USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Focused throughout with notes of red cherry and bright mineral tang darkened with flourishes of earth and hints of spice. Layered and elegantly balanced with fine acidity and tannins and full finish. Really nice. (92 pts.)
  • 2009 Zotovich Family Pinot Noir Estate Sta. Rita Hills - USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Really showing well. Bright floral and mineral notes highlighting red cherry and fig with darker earthy spice. Layered and complex with elegance. Fine sharpness to the structure... still plenty of room to unfold. Full finish. (93 pts.)
  • 2011 Sojourn Pinot Noir Sangiacomo Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Earthy, red fruit, mineral and pine needle aromas. Bright and rich on the palate showing forward black cherry and earthy mineral complexity. Boldly styled but impressive in the way it keeps a light balance. Fine polished feel and a full finish. Nicely done. (92 pts.)
  • 2011 Sojourn Pinot Noir Rodgers Creek Vineyard Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Aromatics of earth and mushroom with rock and black cherry. Rich plum and cherry fruit on the palate with bright mineral, earth and spice. Bold & rich with balance. Breathy long finish. Very well done. (92 pts.)
  • 2011 Sojourn Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Notes of plum, fig, brown spice and mineral. Big and rich dark fruit on the palate with layered earth and spice. Opulent style with fine polished structure and a lengthy finish. (92 pts.)
  • 2006 Rozak Pinot Noir C Block Rozak Ranch Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
I was really impressed by all of the Rozak wines tasted, but only noted the C Block. This is notable for its dense earthy complexity throughout. Strong aromatics and almost chewy on the palate with earth and dried herb notes along with red fruit and orange peel peeking through. There's a lot of structure here, both from its acidity as well as fine grainy tannins. Still a dense core, this needs some time, but is a intriguing and enjoyable wine. (92 pts.)
  • 2010 Alma Rosa Pinot Noir La Encantada Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Rocky mineral, bright cherry and earth aromas. Lots of complexity on the palate with brown spice, bright red fruit, eucalyptus, and forest floor notes. Fine and polished structure and lingering finish. Very nice. (93 pts.)
  • 2008 Hartley-Ostini Hitching Post Pinot Noir Julia's Vineyard Santa Maria Valley - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
Dark and brooding spice notes on the nose with black cherry, earth and red florals. Red fruit on the palate with mineral highlights and earthy undertones- shows well. Polished fine tannins and a lingering finish. Excellent. (93 pts.)
  • 2008 Hartley-Ostini Hitching Post Pinot Noir Perfect Set Fiddlestix Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills - USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
Straightforward throughout with cherry, spice and mineral-earth notes on the nose and palate. Well balanced and polished in feel. Fine tannins linger through the finish. (91 pts.)
