2/9/2013 (Prince Wine Store - Bank Street)

Littorai, Burn Cottage and Evesham Wood tasting with a Txakoli and a bargain Oregon Pinot thrown in as well.

  • 2011 Crittenden Estate Los Hermanos Saludo al Txakoli - Australia, Victoria, North East, King Valley
A delicious, floral and musky nose that's almost sweet, with a streak of lemon that leads to a mineral palette with some bite and a soft fleshy finish. (90 pts.)
  • 2011 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir Cashburn - New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago
An interesting phosphor and green stalk nose that is very expressive, despite it's young age. The palette is savoury and full of interesting, spicy acid. (91 pts.)
  • 2011 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir - New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago
The nose is full of ripe, red fruits, but is balanced with savouries and a struck match edge. The palette is full of beautiful tannins with balancing acid and an interesting smokiness. (93 pts.)
  • 2010 Littorai Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
Ripe strawberries, cherry and cold tea with a bright acidic finish that is young, but precise. (94 pts.)
  • 2009 Littorai Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
There is a dusty and earthy note to the currant and spice laden nose that leads to the succulent palette that shows great ageing potential. (94 pts.)
  • 2005 Littorai Pinot Noir Mays Canyon - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
A nose of raspberry, red currants and earth spice, laced with cherry liquor. The palette shows a great tannin profile which is chewy and while there is a bit of warmth there, it is well balanced. This is just superb. (94 pts.)
  • 2009 Union Wine Company Pinot Noir Kings Ridge - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
A cheap and cheerful number, with red berries and smokey wood on the nose and a cherry palette with plenty of spice. This is exceptional wine for the price. (92 pts.)
  • 2011 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
The wine presents delicate florals up front and the overall profile is very spicy with full tannins to back it up. (91 pts.)
  • 2010 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Illahe - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
A big powerful meaty nose which is savoury and full of cherry with chewy tannins and textural goodness all round. (94 pts.)
  • 2010 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Le Puits Sec - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
There is a bold nose of smoked small goods with dried herbs and bright red fruit. The palette is textured with good tannin weight and a delicious cherry finish. (95 pts.)
