  • 2009 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Slightly reductive nose, citrus, flowers, minerals, filigree, incredibly light and intense, excellent precision and length. An infant of course, but very moreish already and promises to develop into a wonderfully stylish and elegant wine. Classic JJ. (93 pts.)
  • 1983 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
AP 11. Very light colour for age; waxy, smoky nose, floral, no botrytis; very energetic and elegant, very Prüm, lemon and peach flavours, wonderfully harmonious, floating effortlessly across the palate. Was decanted and all the better for it. At peak but with time in hand. (93 pts.)
  • 1995 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Quite a deep, golden colour; rich and honeyed nose, hint of mint, touch of VA; on the palate fully mature, (almost) Auslese weight of fruit, rich and intense, excellent flavour complexity, acidity seems relatively low; good length. Develops extremely well in the glass. The stylistic difference with the two Prüms that came before couldn't have been greater. (92 pts.)
  • 1993 Schloss Saarstein Serriger Schloss Saarsteiner Riesling Eiswein - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Half bottle. Golden capsule, AP 17. Deep orange gold; wonderful caramel nose, candied fruit, spices, flowers; excellent Eiswein acidity, fresh apples, so intense and concentrated and so elegant at the same time, great stuffing of plumptious fruit; excellent length. Now - 2030. (94 pts.)
  • 2001 Château Montrose - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
Lovely nose, deep, dark and masculine, good ripe fruit, rich spicy oak, hint of toast; on the palate a nice weight and balance, very solid but on the dry side in the tannins; good length. Attractive nose, lacks charm and some stuffing on the palate. A very generous impromptu gesture from Frits after an evening of Riesling... (91 pts.)
