we gathered 8 persons to enjoy some great vintages BX wines

  • 1982 Château Calon-Ségur - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
    Light brown colour.
    Close to top shoulder fill. Cork with dry marks almost to its top.
    The wine seemed a bit oxidised by aroma and flavour.
    Elegant tertiary aroma - not much fruit left.
    Med bodied, low harmony, less than expectations.
    No fruit showed, but a classic left bank structure with little acidity.
    Medium-plus finish. The experience was important. (89 pts.)
  • 1996 Château Calon-Ségur - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
    light red-brown color with brown rim;
    Strong green herbs aroma that softened a bit during 30 min - this wine require a pre-opening of few hours; very tannic & green in taste; a classical Saint Estephe. (91 pts.)
  • 1996 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
    deep garnet colour
    heavy intense aroma of pepper, slight earthiness, ripe black currant, blackberries, pencil lead, cedar, hints of chewy red fruit;
    thick and dense on the palate while still quite structured.
    firm tannin, full bodied, dense black fruits, nice cedar, hint vegetal flavours towards the end, good complexity;
    medium-long finish with a hint of bitterness.
    excellent and still young, though enjoyable now. can live at least a decade ahead. (92 pts.)
  • 1990 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
    Clearly one of the top Bordeaux ever tasted so far, including 1er GCC, but for a fraction of the price!!!
    Nobody expected that this will turn out to such a great wine!
    The aromas haunted all the 8 of us for many long minutes.
    Classic leather, perfect mature red and black fruits and an old cigarbox filled with quality tobacco.
    In the palate a perfect balance of fruit, tannins acid and a fantastic velvety mouthfeeling that made all guest around the table several times simply forget the food and just sitting there. What a big wine!
    If you can buy some more, buy it now! (98 pts.)

The 1990 GPL was extraordinary!!!
