2005 and 2006 Bordeaux Tasting during WFA. Was there late and only managed to try most of the 05 and a few of the 06. Notes were taken only for selected fews. In general, Margaux 05 were showing very well however the 06 whites were generally better as compared to the 05.

  • 2005 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Creamy with lots of oak. Good Acid and length.
  • 2006 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Grapefruit on the nose with lively acid, enjoyable on the palate as well....
  • 2005 Château Petit Village - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Only Pomerol in the flights but one of the most enjoyable. Ripe and lush on the nose but palate was rather light seemingly lack of structure and weight.
  • 2005 Château Léoville Barton - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
This is the second time tasting, was not very impressed the first and same the second time. Perhaps it is way too young. Extremely tight but good clean acid with thick tannins. Hopefully this indicates the potential of the wine
  • 2005 Château Léoville Poyferré - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
More expressive as compared to Barton with good freshness and cassis. Palate was rather light and does not seem to have the stuffing Barton offers.
  • 2005 Château Brane-Cantenac - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Boy am i glad i decided to buy this after first tasting it at UGC. Sweet floral nose with honey. Honey suckle on the palate with excellent finish. One of the most enjoyable 05 at this moment i would say.
  • 2005 Château du Tertre - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Another good Marguax. Sweet Cassis with floral notes exhibiting good ripeness of the grapes.
  • 2005 Château Malartic-Lagravière - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Another enjoyable one with lush ripeness of the grapes and cassis. However does not seem to have sufficient acid to carry it into the long term
