A little better this go around it seems, which is only fitting as this is the last bottle that I have. Quite dark and oily with lemon, honeydew, and a bit of pineapple, perhaps. On the palate, this is not liquid gold, and not even liquid silver, but maybe bronze. This is a wine for the wine-geek in all of us, a 12 year old Chenin from the heart of it all (OK, Vouvray is probably the heart, so maybe this is from one of the lungs?). Very Good. thedrunkencyclist.com (2829 views)

Rich gold/yellow color. Nose of quartz, salty candied lemon. Baked apple and chicken broth flavors, and more salty minerals. Medium finish, good acidity. Interesting and different. I've had this wine from two different vintages, both with no less than 8-9 years on them, and found them both a lot of fun. (3457 views)

The wine looks yellow gold colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like cut green grass and eucalyptus. The body is light/medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

served with appetizer at selkirk manor. celebrating keith and jean's 50th wedding anniversary. at the table were myself, pat, keith, jean, sandy and martin. this is my first experience with wine from this appellation. paired with seafood medley consisting of lobster, shrimp and caviar on a bed of homemade coleslaw. a perfect pairing. initially shy on the nose but opens as it is exposed to air and comes closer to castle temperature. some find a hint of sweetness but for me it is basically made in a dry style. lots of lemon, mineral, sea breeze and calcium. will look for this again. This is the first Savennières that I have had in a while—classic Chenin nose of lemon, a bit of minerality, and a little funk (in a good way). On the palate it lacked a little depth, but still reminded me that I need to drink more Chenin. Very Good. thedrunkencyclist (1927 views)

100% Chenin Blanc. Had the 2002 vintage of this wine and liked it slightly better than this vintage. 2004 was an average to good vintage in the Loire Valley. Found this on sale for $3 per bottle and bought 9. Normally $20. Tart with solid acidity. Notes of lemon zest and minerals with a hint of sea salt. Paired this with a cheddar potato and bacon soup and it worked well. 89 points. (2282 views)

This wine is not about fruit at all at the moment. It's got wet wool on the nose, primarily, and the palate is all about zesty acidity and a firm stoniness. This won't be for everyone, of course, but this vintage has come into its own. And it will probably still develop for years. (2348 views)

This wine has fleshed out on both the nose and the palate. It appears to be coming into its own with some hay and funk to complement the ripe apple and citrus aromas. Medium plus weight and very solid-feeling in the mouth, that stony texture so characteristic of Savennieres. Very persistent. Drinking well. Somewhat surprisingly to me, the screwcap does not seem to be inhibiting the aging here, nor contributing to reduction. (2486 views)

6/12/09: screwcap. Very light color, nose suggested reduction. Palate the first night was incredibly dry and not giving up much, but was enjoyable with food. Second day and the acidity is slightly more pronounced, making this racy and more refreshing. The fruit is now more present as well, creamy apple/pear/citrus, with some bitterness on finish. This has picked up body and texture in the last year. There are some oxidative notes when it is first poured, but as it gets some air and warms in the glass, these recede to reveal a waxiness with fruit behind, very typical of Baumard, in my experience. The palate is now fairly full and has a solid, stony texture, remaining fresh without becoming tangy. A slight absence of grip and persistence on the finish betrays the vintage's lack of depth, but this was nevertheless an enjoyable bottle. (3552 views)

A light straw colored wine that shows some oxidized notes of old apple, crushed white flowers and a cheesy, almost leesy note too. Light in body, but sharp with acidity, this is a firm, tough style that's frankly difficult to appreciate. Like another user, when tasting this blind, I guessed Loire Muscadet. (3427 views)

I like Savennieres - think it's one of the most distinctive whites out there. This one: Moderate nose, lemon verbena, wet stones and herbs. On the palate - bang, acidity hits you but also some nice citrus and a great sensation of minerality. Saved part of the bottle overnight...
...edited to add day 2 impressions: wow, the nose developed a real funk redolent of soft, ripe cheese and the wet stones morphed to wet concrete. The palate stayed pretty consistent, though perhaps the acidity moderated a little and the minerality became more prominent. (3214 views)

Nose: Very linear lime/citric nose with some mineral and a hint of gym locker room that, thankfully, blew off with time. Palate: Laser-like acidity, crisp and bone dry with some mineral hints on the finish. The finish is somewhat lengthy given the lean, angular nature of the wine. This wine screams shellfish and although not a very good wine still has some appealing attributes. (3189 views)

I had hoped all the negative reviews here were wrong. They weren't. In fact, I liked this even less than they did. As others have said, it's stinky -- almost cheesy -- on the nose, with a tinny note there somewhere, too. There's some decent guava or something on the palate, but it's too chalky, acidic, and out of balance in the mouth to be enjoyable. It's such a disjointed wine that I couldn't force myself to finish a full glass. And I can drink almost anything, so that's saying something. (2828 views)

Dinner and wine (Chicago): Popped and poured. Shy on the nose, but there was some good Savennieres minerality with a citrus fruit background. Light on the palate and crisp, which is of course not a problem per se, but it does not have the authority of the '02, for example. Nevertheless, the telltale stony mouthfeel is there distinctly. This is a quiet wine right now and is not going to jump out and impress. I've seen Savennieres pick up a lot of depth with decanting or a day open before, and it would have been interesting to see if this benefited from some air. (2951 views)
