2009 Ken Wright Horizontal - Nathan's 1st Birthday: My favorite of the 2009 Ken Wright Pinots (shocker). More depth, it's the complete package in terms of not lacking anything compared to the other site specific expressions (1612 views)

Mature wine moving towards past maturity.
Losing fruit and body. Aromatically dominated by quite nice tertiary aromas. Soft acidity. The finish is dominated by drying acidity, weakening aromas and a highly present and unpleasant alcohol. Unbalanced and declining. Drink up. (2758 views)

Super rich, ripe syrupy, full bodied balanced with good acid balance. A style that I don't always enjoy but today it was in the knifes edfwtand it was delicious (4221 views)

Opened next to a 2007 Cadeau Pinot Cote Est which I preferred. Crimson color. Fruitier than the Cadeau Pinot with notes of red berries and cherries. Didn't notice the heat which some others have mentioned. 89 points (3387 views)

Super extracted and a layer of pruney/oxidized flavors. No other experience with Ken Wright/Shea, so I don't know if this is the way the wine should be (if so, meh), or a flawed nomacorc (damn plastic corks). Cellared well since release, so it's not a storage issue. Not great. (1704 views)

This had a deep, rich, fragrant bouquet of smoke, burnt wood, black cherry, cola, sassafras and spice aromas. The palate was rich, ripe and dry with flavors of burnt toast, black cherry, blackberry, cola and spice. (1972 views)

Decanted for 2 hours and enjoyed with salmon and roasted potatoes with bacon...exquisite!! Nice effort from Ken Wright. Shea vineyard delivers nice complexity with Bing cherries. Acidity a bit strong but not overpowering. (2315 views)

Was a good not great bottle. Very nice fruit on the nose and had a nice feel on the front of the tong but not much of a finish. I have had this in the past and enjoyed this bottle much less than in the past. at this price point can not afford to not be consistent. My two cents... (2499 views)

Had a 1/2 bottle with dinner at Little Palm Island. She had poached lobster and I the duck. A good compliment to both. SIlky with lots of raspberry and bing cherry. A winner. (2299 views)

Shea Tasting (Kevin's House): Cranberry, rose petals, dust and blueberries. A lot of wood up front and firm tannins. Over 3 hours it opened up and added a nice perfume element on the palate. Should get better. 93-94. (3822 views)

Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir Mini Offline (Rocknroller's (Kevin's)): Medium dark red. This had about an hour decant, it was noticeably lighter than the '05. This wine is clearly quite young, and evolved nicely over an hour and a half. The nose had distinct florals, earth, black cherry, with more spice and a wood. This is well balanced and fairly elegant on the palate with medium weight. There is a nice core of black cherry and some raspberry in the background, spice and wood, with a nice finish and some prominent tannins. This is drinking well with some air and should improve over 2-3 years. My and group #2 WOTN. (3423 views)

OR Pinot Tasting ~ Shea Vineyard Focus (Kevin's House): Nose: Perfumy with saddle leather aromas. Very cool nose. Palate: Good acidity from youth with red fruits and prominent spice. Medium length finish. This one took a while to open up but was worth the wait. Very nice with a good life ahead. My #2 WOTN and 92+ points. (3535 views)

Lovely but still very young. The 2009 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir explodes in Christmas spice, blueberries and a subtle but very present tone of wet tobacco leaves. It is still very young and a bit tight, though I am sure it will turn into a beauty in the future. Highly recommended. (Score is 92-94) (3685 views)

Dinner with Lasse (My place): Medium red color. Compote of strawberry and rhubarb, and licorice on the full-throttle nose. Jammy, juicy red fruit on the palate, with loads of concentrated and intense strawberry, rhubarb and cherry, followed by licorice and chew tobacco on the finish. Great length. (4235 views)

Opened the 09 Guadalupe, McCrone and Shea bottlings side by side to see how they were doing, this was in my opinion the easiest to drink right now. It's not as complex as the McCrone and is a bit more straight-forward and up front with it's flavors, and the structure here is balanced well with the intensity of the fruit where as the Guadalupe and McCrone were not balanced at this point. This could still use another 6 months in the bottle as it is obviously very young, but if I had the choice between the three I would chose this one. (4102 views)
