2019 Halcon Vineyards Pinot Noir Oppenlander Vineyard (USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County) 3/31/2024dariuskoenig92

Bright acidity balanced by wafts of raspberry and black cherry fruit, with peppery, lightly balsamic tones. I've always appreciated the Gordon's winemaking, there's something about Halcon wines I really enjoy, a tension underneath the fruit that gives liveliness. Great food wine, served with pork tenderloin braised in a white wine reduction...well it was California sparkling, but it's what we already had opened for Easter 2024. This has plenty of life to go. 2011 Halcon Vineyards Syrah Alturas (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands) 3/23/2024maphillips79

Wow. Just finishing a lackluster east coast ski season with a foot of the fluffy stuff. Figured I’d check in w a ‘11 alturas in a passive ‘48-‘60 NH very cold basement. 4 left. Pure black/blue fruit, touch of blackberry/tar pallet. Tannic palette cleansing with the perfect balance of fruit/acid. Clearing acid keeps building after each half hour sips. Will save half for tomorrow. (68 views)

2018 Halcon Vineyards Petite Sirah Tierra Theopolis Vineyard (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands) 3/19/2024grafstrb

Decanted for an hour or two before service. Tasted non-blind over an hour on Day 1, and then revisited on Day 2. Purple-fruited and savory (olives and bay leaf) on the Nose. Clean. Medium bodied. Zesty and light-footed for a Petite Sirah. Good acidity. Medium tannins, but I don't get the sense they're locking-up much flavor. Savory and purple-fruited on the palate, too. Paired nicely with pot roast and veg.. Completely primary, but drinking well nonetheless. Drink or Hold. (577 views)

2017 Halcon Vineyards Syrah Alturas (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands) 3/14/2024NickA92

Young and pure, lithe (it's only 12.6%) and full of sappy, extremely primary berry fruit. Hints of liquorice, smoke, sage and incense come and go, and there's dark chocolate on the finish. Mmm! A fully mature bottle of this would be brilliant. (747 views)

2019 Halcon Vineyards Syrah Elevacion (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands) 3/13/2024GrapeScott93

Wow, this was awesome. I've loved what other producers (Copain, Rhys/Alesia) have done with fruit from this vineyard but this is the first time I've tried the Halcon version. Ringer for a Northern Rhone (maybe stylistically closest to Cornas or Hermitage) with abundant granite, smoke and game meat flavors. Good freshness and acidity keep it interesting. (1222 views)

2019 Halcon Vineyards Syrah Elevacion (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands) 3/10/2024HFLED93

This feels much more open vs the 2018 a year ago. Lots of old school Syrah character - black olive, herbs de Provence, plum, violets. Medium acidity and a long finish. Really quite complex and wouldn’t be about of place among St Joseph’s and Cornas bottlings at 2-3x the price. Outstanding stuff. (1104 views)

2019 Halcon Vineyards Mourvèdre (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands) 3/6/2024winelibertine91

when first opening the bottle there was a little fizzines maybe secondary fermentation? after sitting in the glass for 15 mins that all went away.
Lighter bodied than i remember from 2 years ago. very nice though with notes of indian spice, earthiness, black fruits a little funk, pepper. Seemed to indicate Syrah to blimd tasters. (978 views)

2019 Halcon Vineyards Syrah Alturas (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands) 3/3/2024honest bob

From 75cl, opened but not decanted 9 hours. Still presenting with some CO2 spritz, this feels quite primary, the fine dark bramble fruit still a bit sweet and hefty for its—otherwise—apparently delicate frame. Others at the table enjoyed this wine more than I did, so I'll withhold judgement, gladly confirm that it has plenty of substance for 5-10 years, and hope to meet it again sometime after 2029. I note that John Gilman recommends leaving this until 2031, and think that in this case, the View From the Cellar is clear-sighted. NR (1470 views)

2019 Halcon Vineyards Syrah Alturas (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands) 3/2/2024blanquito

Primary but showing its wares. Terrific nose of fresh cracked black pepper, black cherries and a soupçon of garrigue, a bouquet that harkens to both the earthiness of the Old World and the richness of the New. The palate is less ready, showing a little spritz on the pop and pour, but it pulls together quickly with some air. Aside from some tongue tightening tannin and grip, this is drinking well, with layers of sappy lavender, iodine, cloves and some heady fruit. Flashy yet balanced, rich enough to enjoy on its own but I bet this pairs well with fowl or stew. Drink now if you’ve got a stash or hold one for another 5 years to try when it’s relaxed a little. Excellent and a great QPR at release pricing. (1366 views)

2018 Halcon Vineyards Syrah Alturas (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands) 2/29/2024thalver

Nicely balanced, with good acidic cut. More savory than fruity, with prominent pepper notes. For my tastes, the stems could stand to be better integrated....give it a few years for the next bottle. (680 views)

2yrs from my last bottle and I don't think this has moved much. Big violet florals and white pepper nose. Fresh purple fruit attack—but remains narrow on the palate and turns rather austere on the complex but dry finish. Could use some more time to soften. (1422 views)

Was a perfect match with loin Lamb chops. Interestingly my bottle was stored upright since June 2015 and had no sediment in the wine but had all the sediment stuck to the bottom of the bottle (172 views)
