2013 Bodegas Eguren Cabernet Sauvignon Mercedes (Spain) 10/3/2016Mips83

Thin, bright berries, quick finish. Not much to recommend this as a Cab, per se. To me, the food pairing taste profile of this wine, this vintage, is more pinot-like which is 1 reason I bought this. This gave me a reliable every day food friendly value. (1260 views)

2012 Georges Vigouroux Cahors Le Vassal de Murcues (France, Southwest France, Cahors) 10/3/2016Mips88

Originally I had written a year of 2018 for drinking. Don't wait that long. While there is still a slice tannic spice edge, this is very drinkable now with not left to offer in additional aging. Smooth, pleasantly earthy, great company for my cheese & charcuterie dinner. The wine looks ruby colored. It smells like black pepper. It tastes like forest floor, black pepper and tea. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity. It is not at all like the hot alcohol or watery or other end of the scale flavorful bombs from Argentina. (488 views)

2012 Spellbound Petite Sirah (USA, California) 6/25/2015Mips80

It was smooth. It was silky. It was getting just a bit jammy on the finish. It was mostly a mouthful of oak. As inexpensive as this was, there are even less expensive wines which will give you the same mouthful of oak.

If you want to explore the characteristics of a Petite Syrah this will not give it to you at this point. (4122 views)

2013 Filipa Pato Baga FP (Portugal, Beiras, Beira Atlântico) 1/31/2015Mips85

Pinot like equivalence; delivers better than a Pinot Noir would at this price point. On the lean, clean side. Bright berries, consistent sip to swallow. (1317 views)

N.V. Evolution (USA, American) 3/8/2014Mips85

Bright fruit: some apricot, a touch of peach. Off-dry enough to match well with a spicy jamalaya dish. Good body but fairly quick finish. This would also be a great patio pounder. It drinks well by itself. (1170 views)

2010 Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir Yarra Valley (Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley) 11/9/2013Mips85

On the darker side for a pinot: approaching garnet at the edges. A slight barnyard aroma hits you on the nose. The taste has an earthiness with red berries behind it. The taste is consistent from the front of the palate to the back.

All in all, an unexpectedly decent pinot for a good price. (1408 views)

2009 Bodegas Sierra Salinas Alicante Puerto Salinas (Spain, Valencia, Alicante) 11/6/2013Mips86

At its introduction, this wine wowed me with a huge blast of flavors, depth & dimension. My first taste, my first bottle of this I rated at 90.

Sadly, it has not aged as well as it began. It is a good wine but not great. If past prime, the prime came then went very quickly after introduction.

Other tasting notes have been accurate about the flavor profiles. (2085 views)

2011 Flaio Primitivo Salento IGT (Italy, Puglia, Salento IGT) 5/25/2013Mips85

Smokey intense richness. Blackberry, anise with just a little pepper. Lacks extra dimensions but is full bodied with medium finish. Great value for the price. Drinks deeper than some Zinfandels at twice the price. (1789 views)

2010 Les Portes de Bordeaux Bordeaux (France, Bordeaux) 5/1/2013Mips80

Strawberry candy with floral notes on the nose. A little sour cherry on the tasting. Simple. Light bodied red which, slightly chilled or not, would work as a summer sipper. A medium finish. Food friendly. Okay value for $6. (4291 views)

N.V. St. Hilaire Crémant de Limoux Brut Côté Mas (France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Crémant de Limoux) 4/12/2013Mips88

2011 La Granja 360 Cariñena Tempranillo & Garnacha (Spain, Aragón, Cariñena) 4/10/2013Mips50

The rating system would not let me grade this any lower. But if I could have this wine would have a score of Zero.

Color was a deep red/violet. It gave me great hope and anticipation which was woefully dashed upon tasting.

Flavor profile: Sour water.

After trying enough of this to be sure of the taste I had to go to my cellar to open up a real wine, a nice wine. Just to reassure myself that I still had functioning taste buds. (1181 views)

2010 Domaine Saint-Peyre Picpoul de Pinet (France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Picpoul de Pinet) 4/6/2013Mips85

The color is still a pale yellow-green. The taste now has less grapefruit- perhaps tasting more of red grapefruit. The rest of the summer fruit ( some green melon, apricot, a little lemon) is better integrated. Medium body. Medium to long finish.

I like it better this year than last year. It has a screw cap. This may have helped it last into this year. (1904 views)

2008 Jean Dumont Vouvray (France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray) 3/15/2013Mips85

I like it better this year than the bottle I opened last year. Tastes of pineapple, ripe melons and a good lemonade. (1123 views)

2008 Tormaresca Nèprica Puglia IGT (Italy, Puglia, Puglia IGT) 1/28/2013Mips87

Everything was well integrated. Rich, smooth, mellow and velvety deep but short finish Needs a bit of breathing space, more so the second day than the first.

Was still a great pairing with garlicky, beefy, cheesy lasagna as well as w cheese & sausage, as well as just an aperitif.

I echo the sad sentiments that this was my last bottle. (2383 views)

2008 Bodega El Esteco Malbec Don David Reserve (Argentina, Valles Calchaquíes, Salta, Calchaquies) 1/23/2013Mips90

Imo, this is at peak right now, early 2013. Luscious, deep blackberry w some leather notes. Wonderful nose of dark fruit. Structure is there but the tannins have smoothed out. High alcohol content without the heat. Deep and long finish.

The wine looks Inky colored. It smells like Blackberry, High Toast, and Oak. The body is Full. The wine has Polished texture. The wine finishes Long. (4297 views)
