Second "What did I buy from Garagiste?" Tasting (My home - Chicago IL): Tasting. Lots of fruit but also lots of tannin. Very muscular. Got much better with more air as the evening wore on. Excellent value at under $20, certainly better 2010 or later. (2231 views)

what a bust. hot and unidimensional. probably the worst wine all things considered that i've bought from garagiste. i simple adore the baumard savinierres but i will never again buy another red from them. (4516 views)

This was delicious and went very well with a seafood paella. Medium bodied, juicy with lots of crisp currant acidity, nice cherry fruit on the long finish. This is an excellent food wine just the right balance. (5005 views)

2003 Domaine des Baumard Anjou Rouge Clos de la Folie (France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Anjou) 1/10/2008Griffin

(13.5% vol)
Spice and wood on the nose; "frisky" tannins; toast, tabacco, and cardamon(?) on the finish -- there was a spritely, almost effervesent, sensation on the finish that reminded me of a cola.
(Day 2) Having tasted the wine after tasting a Sancerre (A. Mellot "La Moussiere"; 2006; 13%), the Folie did seem a bit "brutish" in comparison; however, when tasted along side a Visan (Les Vins de Vienne; 2004; 14.5%), the Folie showed more finesse and a distinct individuality. This was my last bottle and I think that I would prefer drinking this wine slightly chilled and during a warmer season of the year. (5157 views)

Opinions are all over the place on this, but I enjoy this wine (this is my second bottle). A brilliant ruby robe with a charismatic cab franc sweet fruit core offset by a unique leafy herbaceousness. New world power with some old world nuance. (3752 views)

There is a reason why this wine is so rare, it's because no one wants to drink it...the Alcohol on this wine is a case study for how unbalanced alcohol can make a wine...it is really over the top...used it as a cooking wine...and I was worried about the food. :-) (3845 views)

Garagiste Treasure Hunt (Rios d' Sudamerica - Chicago, IL): Forward, ripe nose. Fresh modern-styled fruits. Raspberry, green pepper, herbs and earth notes are commingled. Good acidity and light tannins knit the palate together. Nice with modest depth but complexity and character. An interesting look into something off the beaten path. (5200 views)

G7 (Jock): Primary Cabernet Franc nose. Bitter tart cherries on the finish. I didn't know Baumard made reds. Not my bag. (5141 views)

2003 Domaine des Baumard Anjou Rouge Clos de la Folie (France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Anjou) 1/15/2007mdavis

The wine is much more integrated than the last bottle I tried...On the nose, I get spice, herbs, plum, strawberries, and a little oak. On the palate, a noticable amount of HEAT (2003), and much of the same characteristics of the nose...HIgh acid, low astringency and tannin, and moderate sweetness is present. Finish is short in length for me...I think this wine is pretty mediocre...and the vintage, I detest it... (4523 views)

2003 Domaine des Baumard Anjou Rouge Clos de la Folie (France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Anjou) 12/10/2006MrSnooty89

Much smoother and better integrated than the previous bottle I drank. Light translucent red with fading at the rim. Slightly hot aroma with currants, acetyl alcohol and a hint of spice and herbs (rosemary, clove). Smooth, medium-bodied mouth feel with fine tannins and a very long finish (20 seconds or so). Perhaps slightly better with food than it is alone. A fairly acidic wine with drying tannins on the finish and just a hint of sweetness and fruit to balance things out, this is by no means a fruit-forward wine, but I really enjoyed it. (4868 views)

I don't really relate to the other notes/reactions to this wine...it seems controversial...it is indeed unusual...I think it is great and unique. A brute of a CF, very CF on nose...dominant leafiness, green bell pepper, on steroids. In mouth, explosion of pepper, spearmint, good weight, fruit sap core. I very much like this. (4386 views)

Nice if not too complex nose of currant, wet cement, and just of hint of herbs. Palate is ripe, the flavors follow the nose for the most part. This Cab Franc from Anjou seems fairly dense but there is pretty good balance between the fruit and tannins. Drinking nicely now, I don't think this will be a long term ager. This bottle didn't have the high acidity the other TN's mention. Very good. (4699 views)

13.5% alc...I have had unbelievable luck lately with the nose leading into any wine I've tried...this one continues that cycle! Explosive strawberry, fresh, fresh, freshly cut strawberries, almost strawberry jam, some strawberries with the skin mushing off (you know what I mean getting your strawberries in the who knows how they really are plastic containers)...as you might expect on the palate, more of the same, but the acidity really shines through on this one, lean to begin - pure expression on the nose, on the palate this wine screams for food, so I oblige...With food this wine screams juicy-strawberry-spicy, the shrieking nature of the wine calms...Cerebral. Beautiful, delicious summer wine. I only have one more bottle, but Garagiste couldn't have been more spot on with the quality of this wine. **** out of *****. (5216 views)
