2008 McPrice Myers L'Ange Rouge (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County) 11/16/2017Ridgerunner93

These wines are just wonderful and at about 10 years old drinking well, with prospects to continue to drink well for another 5-7 years. (1327 views)

Pop and Pour. Still going strong. Great nose of strawberry, red currant, red licorice, and red fruit. Palate dominated by an explosion of red fruit, strawberry, dried cherries, raspberry, rhubarb, and spice. Tannins definitely present (surprisingly) but well integrated. Medium finish, and a great balance. Superb, and one of my favorite bottlings from McPrice - just great stuff. (2660 views)

Still fresh and tight. Some creamy-ness, big fruit - blue and red, the high alcohol is noticeable. A very pleasant wine. (2682 views)

Still surprisingly good for a 2008 fruit-forward Grenache! A spicy Grenache with lots of fruits and well-balanced acidity and tannins. (3527 views)

Nose - dark raspberry and cherry
Palate - dark raspberry jam, earth, sassafrass, and some stems
Structurally - seemed overripe with low acidity and fully resolved tannins
Overall - This wine seemed overripe but not overly alcoholic. It paired well with thumbprint cookies stamped with raspberry jam. (2782 views)

It requires a couple of hours of decanting but then it is pretty darn gorgeous. A spicy and taste Grenache with dark and brooding berry flavors. Ready to drink. (2748 views)

Sage, dark berries, black currant - a great wine. May be a little high on the alcohol. (1786 views)

Gave this several hours in decanter. Deep ruby purple in the glass. The nose does have a high alcohol edge which is completely forgivable as black currant, forest floor, licorice, roasted meat, slight leather and black pepper stream out of the glass. On the palate, the wine has massive shoulders, revealing burnt sugar and syrupy dark berry jam full of thick expansive chew. As sticky and dense as a bold Australian Syrah, but slightly more restrained and complex. Finishes with singing tannin lofting all the richness beautifully. PJG: 92-93 (2215 views)

More hedonistic and fruity than a pressed fruit bowl courtesy of Hedo Rick. Plenty of oak and fruit, combined with decent structure, make this one of the better wines I've had lately. As one expert pointed out, there was a little bit of "alcohol peeking above the surface", but it wasn't offensive enough to ruin the wine for me. (2362 views)

Still rocking good. If not for the alcohol peeking above the surface a little, this would be hitting 93-94 pts on my scorecard. (2250 views)

Popped and poured. Color is dark ruby, 90% saturated and huge legs. Profound aroma, driven by blackcurrant, licorice, roasted meats, some honeybutter and buckwheat. Very concentrated dark fruit palate with great acidity to keep an edge on it. Tremendous length and even some grippy tannins that will soften as it opens. Another winner from MM 5+11+18+8 = 92 (2307 views)

1.5 hour decant. Nose of strawberry, cherry and cocoa. Silky mouthfeel with gobs of lightly-smoked dried cherries, sweet blackberry, strawberry, vanilla, baking spices, and just a subtle hint of pie crust (?) on the finish. Delicious. 91-93 (2145 views)
