Tasted by slywka7 on 12/9/2023 & rated 98 points: Decanted for 45 minutes. Aromas of blackberry, currant, dried cherry, saddle leather and hint of chocolate. Flavors of blackberry, currant, dried cherry, hint of iron and hint of chocolate. Ends with a 40-45 second finish with blackberry and currant notes. This is still going strong and showing no signs of slowing down. (467 views)
Tasted by smahk on 5/14/2023 & rated 93 points: Color: deep garnet
Nose: plum, black cherry, cassis and tobacco
Taste: plum, blackberry, vanilla
This wine has a big, rich mouthfeel which coats the entire tongue. Lots of fruit upfront with an underlying vanilla and graphite essence.

This wine is big with well integrated tannins. The finish lingers long enough to be noticed but wish there was a bit more. (756 views)
Tasted by DesMarteau on 11/11/2021 & rated 95 points: Needs 1 hour at least to open....black cherry, blueberry, vanilla, spice...thick rich nice. (1865 views)
Tasted by ungerlei on 7/12/2021 & rated 97 points: Wow. What a wonderful wine. Balanced and huge at the same time. Would have cellared longer, but its time had come (1977 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 1/30/2021 & rated 96 points: Simply singing! Wonderful black cherry and cassis aromas and flavors with layers of mocha, spice, and oak on the long finish. (2286 views)
Tasted by hmorin@gemroi.com on 12/25/2020: When opened, the cork smelled a little vinegary but as it opened up, got better. (2128 views)
Tasted by dpolzien on 8/9/2020 & rated 94 points: Decanted for 6 hours on Day 1 based on CT recommendations - glad I did as it needed every bit, and continued to evolve into the glass and only got better on day 2. Dark violet to the rim, mixture of black and red fruits with a hint of graham cracker and cinnamon. Plenty of tannins and acid to keep going for many more years, but don't hesitate to enjoy now with a long decant. (2239 views)
Tasted by markcic on 4/26/2020 & rated 95 points: For my shelter at home birthday dinner. Opened 6 hours in advance and decanted through a vinturi and the 3 hour mark. Dark fruit and hints of wood on the nose. The palate was dark berries, cassis, pepper, cedar and a hint of coffee. Finish was very long. A great bottle of wine served with the oven roasted rack of lamb. (2022 views)
Tasted by Bcw1989 on 4/18/2020 & rated 97 points: Outstanding Red wine! Previously Coravined. Dark almost black like look to it. Finish was well over a minute long. Mouthfeel has lots of tannins and load of ripe red fruit. Still had lots of years left in the bottle! Great wine experience! (1606 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 2/15/2020 & rated 94 points: I let it breathe for 1.5 hours. Not nearly enough time. At first I thought the bottle was fried. But after hour 3 the wine started to level out. So I assume we're in a phase. Should've read the notes below and held this another 5 years. This wine needs an unusual amount of time out of the bottle. But if you can let it breathe, you'll enjoy. Muted fruit, but polished leathery, chewy tannins. Even better on day 2.... And best on day 3. Wow. Never had a wine that was best on day 3. A 95 then. A 93 on day 1. (1465 views)
Tasted by jshufelt on 12/28/2019 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 90 minutes before service. Not even remotely enough time. In the glass, impenetrable, inky red-violet-black. On the nose, currants, cocoa, and a hint of truffle. On the palate, sweet black currants and raspberries, almost immediately overtaken by a wave of tannins that persist through a long finish. There is good fruit and substance here, but it's going to take at least 7-10 years in the cellar to emerge. I'm just one voice in the wilderness, but the CT drinking window for this seems at least a decade off. (1503 views)
Tasted by mdvillaverde on 9/15/2019 & rated 94 points: 100% clone 337 cab. 14.5% ABV. I let it breathe for 1.5 hours. Drank over next 1.5. Dry cork broken in half on opening. Needed 2 hours to open up. Good acidity. (1602 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 7/14/2019 & rated 93 points: Jason turns 60 (Tilia): Modern, rich, fruity, delicious. Dense and liqueurish. Maybe a touch grainy. (1852 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 7/11/2019 & rated 93 points: Jason's Big 6-0 Bash (Tilia, Mpls): Very dark purple/red color. Decanted for 5+ hours; drank a glass over 90 minutes. Here's another big boy. Wow, there's some power here, very primary still with bold juicy fruit; blackberry, cassis, spice, wood and a little orange peel. Its very long and whoa does it build on the palate and finishes just a little astringent. A very modern style, and quite delicious. 93+pts. (1956 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 6/6/2019 & rated 96 points: This needed a 90-minute decant before it began to open up but then it showed beautifully with thick, silky palate and robust To-Kalon fruit and leather. It continued to evolve, not always in a pleasant way, and perhaps would show better with more time in bottle. 96 at its best. (1790 views)
Tasted by npettit on 2/13/2019 & rated 92 points: Decanted an hour, will try for much longer next time. (1690 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 11/9/2018 & rated 98 points: Young looking dark purple in color. Minerals, graphite, chocolate, and dark spiced fruit. Benifitted from 2 hours in the decanter. Very nice full throttle mature Cali Cab at its best. Black cherry, ripe blueberries, perfectly acidified, very balanced finish. (1974 views)
Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 11/9/2018 & rated 99 points: Explosive nose. Tobacco, chocolate, vanilla. Black cherry, violet?, touch of bell pepper. Flirting with perfection. (1521 views)
Tasted by n2wine on 9/29/2018 & rated 97 points: Huge flavors. Very dry. The best wine that we had in '18. (1495 views)
Tasted by gharter on 6/25/2018 & rated 95 points: PnP. In a really good place now. Huge aromas of black fruit, spice, cedar, tobacco and anise. Similar flavors, layered together beautifully. Great balance and mouthfeel. Ends in a long smooth silky finish. Not sure if it will improve with time, but not going anywhere soon. (1874 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 7/17/2017 & rated 96 points: First impression out of the bottle, monster nose of dense black berry fruit with hints of rich clay and fresh pipe tobacco. Evolving over time to a dizzying array of berry fruit, tobacco, sweet clay, fresh soil, cedar box notes. Some hints of herbs. Truly a pleasure and again one of the best representations of what a cab can be. (2796 views)
Tasted by bhof2121 on 2/18/2017 & rated 97 points: Fantastic! Plenty of depth and complexity but still fruit forward. Drinks well now but no hurry to open. (2845 views)
Tasted by MD.Gibson on 3/30/2016 & rated 95 points: Opened for 1 hour and had with Spinalis Ribeye next to a 2007 Pahlmeyer. The Schrader was much more approachable than expected. Dark fruit, graphite, and licorice. Just enough tannins to fill the mouth but plush and mouth coating. Can't wait to try the 2010. (4058 views)
Tasted by HOS on 2/26/2016: Brought to the restaurant and decanted briefly before pouring. This is a baby but what a wine. Evolved over the 3 hours drinking with dark fruit, herbs, earth, tobacco, some coffee. Fulllllll bodied, silky smooth with a backbone of fine tannins to give it a good life ahead. 1 minute finish. This is what wine should be. (3774 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 2/19/2016 & rated 96 points: Polished, silky, lush and rich, with layers of ripe, sweet, juicy black and blue fruits, licorice, espresso, vanilla and smoke. Deeply colored, with fat, polished textures, this is showing well today. (4260 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard

Beckstoffer To Kalon continues to receive worldwide accolades for its wines, particularly in the last decade. The vineyard is on a gentle slope on the western foothills of the Oakville appellation. Soils are Bale loam/Bale clay loam, and are impeccably farmed by Andy Beckstoffer’s team. We have a by-acre contract so we can determine canopy, crop load and picking dates – but rely on the Beckstoffer viticulturists for insight into this unique vineyard to guide our decisions. ... ©2012 Tor Kenward Family Wines

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
