Tasted by markcic on 6/3/2019 & rated 92 points: A beautiful bottle of chardonnay accompanied by a platter of sushi. There was white flowers on the nose, The palate was peach, pear, melon and some oak to keep it all in balance. A nice finish. Drinking extremely well at 10 years old. (1628 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 10/8/2017 & rated 91 points: This opened up beautifully, but seemed a touch tired when we finally got to it 1.5 hrs later. This has declined a bit since our last bottle 3 years ago.
That said, still elegant and flavorful!
Great mineral, stone fruit, rich, earth. Very well balanced.

Tasted by markcic on 7/29/2017 & rated 92 points: Not as good as it was two years ago but still a beautiful bottle of wine. White flowers on the nose, the palate is peach, apricot, melon and just the perfect touch of oak. A nice smooth finish. (2562 views)
Tasted by finewinebuff57 on 12/11/2015 & rated 91 points: The first time I've drunk this wine. Classically structured and with plenty of life ahead. Both restrained and opulent, 2/3 California, 1/3 Burgundy stylistically. 91 now but a higher score to follow........? Very good. (3435 views)
Tasted by wmccone54 on 11/27/2015 & rated 96 points: Just a stunning California Chardonnay still showing plenty of life after seven years. Slightly more rounded than I remember, but still displaying enough acidity to drink for another 2-3 years. Aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, tropical fruit, and some mixed citrus. Full, and rich with a long lingering ending. Went well with "day after Thanksgiving" turkey leftovers. This is a Chardonnay that I will always seek out. (3526 views)
Tasted by markcic on 9/18/2015 & rated 94 points: An absolutely beautiful bottle of chardonnay, white flowers on the nose, peaches, melon, a hint of vanilla, a little made for a delightful palate. A long finish topped it off. Closer to room temperature the better it was. (2499 views)
Tasted by wmccone54 on 8/30/2015 & rated 96 points: It's been nearly two years since I last enjoyed the HdV Chardonnay. IMHO this is the closest thing that California's has to a Grand Cru White Burgundy. Just a gorgeous and delightful wine. Even after almost seven years this is still going strong and drinking very well. Cork was perfect, color is a deep golden, and the wine showed no signs of oxidation; if properly cellared this could drink well for another 2-3 years. (1803 views)
Tasted by J o e on 8/19/2015 & rated 90 points: Light gold. Aromas of citrus and white flowers give way to a nearly full-bodied concoction crammed with peaches, minerals, lemon peel and a hint of vanilla oak. This bottle did was missing some of the freshness of earlier bottles, yet is still a very satisfying drink. Drink now and over the next few years. 90. (1604 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 4/21/2015 flawed bottle: 'Nothing but Chardonnay' dinner with Peter Rosback: The second HdV in the lineup was also corked. Below the TCA there were some nice limey, citric aromas and, on palate, the suggestion of rich, sweetish, weighty fruit, but it was not possible to make any proper assessment. 3/3. (1910 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 5/18/2014 & rated 92 points: Aromas and flavors of stone fruit, shale, mineral, and spicy oak. Well-balanced acidity. Subtle and elegant. My wife loved the French-influenced minerality and the Napa/Carneros fruit. This has many years ahead of it -- drink until 2019. (2007 views)
Tasted by wmccone54 on 10/28/2013 & rated 96 points: Winery tasting beside the 2010 HdV Chardonnay. Clearly this has developed some complexity that the 2010 hasn't had enough time to gain yet. Tasting notes were consistent with the cellar bottle I enjoyed six months ago. Very impressive. (2429 views)
Tasted by Smith11 on 10/21/2013: - Aromas of apple and has flavours of butterscotch. (2270 views)
Tasted by wmccone54 on 4/13/2013 & rated 96 points: This is the third vintage of the HdV Chardonnay that I've enjoyed and its always consistent, albeit pricy. If you're a CA Chardonnay aficionado, you'll love this. Big, opulent and full bodied with a luscious, creamy mouthfeel. Oak, and fruit are in perfect balance setting up a long, long finish. Along with Ramey, Shafer, and Hudson this ranks in the top tier of CA Carneros Chardonnays. (2867 views)
Tasted by Biggsy on 11/3/2012 & rated 89 points: The nose is youthful and oak dominated with aromas of vanilla and hazelnut. Intensely flavoured with densely packed fruits revealing butted toast and a long creamy finish. The flavours are huge, it needs a little time to settle. (2315 views)
Tasted by davestenton on 11/3/2012: The Wine Gang (London): Quite leesy aromas with a little passion fruit and mango. Really opulent texture. Long. But, as with the Leflaive, I don't think it justifies its price. 17/20. (3860 views)
Tasted by vegasoenophile on 6/23/2012 & rated 88 points: Slightly spicy apple, stone fruit and hints of lychee on the nose. Flavors of pear, pineapple, grapefruit and candied lemon with a nice fresh minerality. Nicely layered and balanced. Crisp, with good weight. (2158 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 4/30/2011 & rated 91 points: nose - custard and vanilla
mouth - fleshy fruit forward chardonnay, with nutmeg and or other barrel spices prominent. rich but not overdone. Less citrus in this than the DeLaGuerra, which i prefer, by a hair. Potentially this would age well(?) Probably a good pair for pasta with a serious cream sauce. (3107 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 3/13/2011 & rated 92 points: Hyde De Villaine Winery Tasting (Hyde De Villaine Winery, Napa, CA): WIML92+

Tasted non blind at the winery.

Light yellow color in the glass. clear looking throughout. Nose of wet stones, yellow pears, lychee and lemon oil. Flavors of lemon, yellow pears, lychee and minerals. Medium to bright acidity, medium body. Drink now through let us say about 5 years. (3064 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.

Carneros
