Tasted by HFLED on 2/21/2021 & rated 87 points: Was hoping to love this based on reviews. Bought at a liquor store so possible heat damage, but flavors seemed pretty muted. Limited cherry and dust flavors on the nose, red fruits and some tar on the palate. Not terribly complex, some tannins and moderate acid. Potential heat damage or may just be shut down, hard to say. (1016 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 11/7/2019: Probably the wine of the night last night, but now Day 2. Red cherry aromas. Palate shows some licorice, and tar. Medium, suave, chewy tannin. Really jamming today, as was yesterday. Maybe lacking that next level complexity. Although some orange zest comes through on the palate. Svelte, yet toned with a nice fruit expression. Drink to 2025 at least. (1470 views)
Tasted by The Hero on 10/22/2019 & rated 93 points: Thought we'd grab this for a pasta night, and it didn't disappoint! It's been cellaring long enough. The acidity is still there, the nose has lovely floral, tar, and spicy notes which all come together beautifully. Fine balance and fully integrated tannins. Just as a good nebbiolo should be! A bit of a pant dropper. (1397 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 11/28/2018: Still on fine form. Sorry to see the last one go! (1792 views)
Tasted by Cabfrancophile on 5/11/2018 & rated 92 points: Excellent, in a great spot. Complex bouquet of woodsy aromas, violets, raspberries and the unquantifiable Nebbiolo varietal spice. Medium plus bodied, balance of upfront strawberry fruit and fresh acidity with spicy undertones. Pleasant subtle finish with a hint of balsamic. Tannins are ripe and integrated.

I should just always have these in the cellar rotation at the 5-10 year age mark. Good young and improve near/mid term. (2314 views)
Tasted by paul canet on 5/28/2017 & rated 91 points: à l'aveugle, on aurait du un Barolo mais pour un prix un peu plus doux. Tout à fait délicieux (2587 views)
Tasted by sawira on 5/18/2017 & rated 93 points: Bottle #24 of 24. Goodbye old friend! Best bottle yet. Beautiful brown notes to the deep ruddy red. Great wafting nose of tar and roses, lots of earth, and balsamico. Palate shows the same. Indeed a baby Barolo, and one of the best values coming out of Italy. (2229 views)
Tasted by aChave on 4/23/2017 flawed bottle: Bad cork; prematurely aged. (2213 views)
Tasted by thwacker on 2/15/2017 & rated 93 points: love Perbacco, and this wine at age 9 is absolutely Nirvana, with silky smooth tannin, slight bricking around the edges, still impressive structure and fabulous acidity, violets and rose petals, very little tarry nuances and other complexities i honestly can't describe. This is a wonderful wine, probably with another 3-4 years to go. This is absolutely the best declassified Barolo anywhere. (2114 views)
Tasted by sawira on 11/20/2016 & rated 92 points: Bottle #23 of 24. This was tight, austere and tannic on first opening, then gave way to more plush fruit as it warmed in glass over the first hour. Huge nose of shoe polish and roses, with hints of balsam, this is indeed a baby barolo. Quickly becoming very acidic though, even shrill at the two hour mark, and all these have been impeccably stored at 55 degrees since release. This bottle is on its last legs. Still delicious for a short bit, but time to drink up. (1929 views)
Tasted by gwkozar on 4/3/2016 & rated 88 points: decanted 8 hours earlier. Served with short rib stew and mushroom risotto. Nose was subtle dried cherries & Licorice, and stayed that way the whole 3 days. Mid-lightweight, medium tannins, good length finish of licorice. but I expected more..... (1619 views)
Tasted by sawira on 3/3/2016 & rated 92 points: Bottle #22 of 24. Superb. Perfect peak right now. Best the second night, but still exceptional the first night. Focused, tight, deep, rich, ripe red and purple fruits, decent acidity, and moderate, noticeable dry and silky tannins. Classic ripe baby barolo. For the tariff, affordable Nebbiolo doesn't get much better. No hint of drying, fading, oxidation or cracking up on the second evening (after a day in cellar under cork in bottle), yet no gain either. Time to go for these. (1693 views)
Tasted by sawira on 11/25/2015 & rated 91 points: Yum. Still dry on the finish, with layered, complex, pure Nebbiolo fruit. (1814 views)
Tasted by sawira on 11/2/2015: Delicious and consistent with previous notes for the first evening, though still a little tight, a bit flat, not singing yet - just needing time to unfurl. Then, the next evening, the second half of the bottle had already begun to oxidize in a way that I rarely see. This was kept under cork at cellar temp, and I've been doing this with my wines for 25 years, and hardly ever see this. To me, this indicates either a strange outlier bottle, or this is beginning its downhill slide. I have another half case, so time will tell. If this is representative, I'd say drink the bottle in one sitting, after decanting for an hour. (1808 views)
Tasted by sawira on 6/10/2015 & rated 92 points: Consistently brilliant, amazing QPR, and just hitting its prime window. Dry, classic Nebbiolo/baby Barolo notes - tar, roses, shoe polish, warm varnish-like baked, ripe, detailed cherries, laden with tertiaries. Yum! (2118 views)
Tasted by sawira on 6/2/2015 & rated 92 points: Super. Still young, with the last glass offering up classic Barolo notes of varnish, road tar, balsamico, menthol, cut roses, and a deep rich fruit laden underpinning. What a score for the price. (1788 views)
Tasted by Osiris021 on 3/8/2015 & rated 89 points: No formal notes. (2009 views)
Tasted by qcwino on 3/8/2015: Violets, cherry and tobacco. Grippy tannins that ease with a 1 hr decant. Pretty wine. (1867 views)
Tasted by Magners on 2/28/2015: This wasn't the best bottle I've had from this wine but still fresh acidity and some sweet berry notes. Over all though a little dry on the fruit and some bitter tannins. This bottle had it's peak a while ago. (1797 views)
Tasted by sawira on 1/28/2015 & rated 91 points: PnP, this is cool and restrained, but not tight or tannic. I'm sure this will be rocking tomorrow night. Drinking right at the peak of its curve, this still has 6-8 years ahead of it. Next bottle, give an hour of air. (1804 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 12/15/2014 & rated 88 points: Very nice. Not as good as most recent vintages, but very good. still on the young side and a great value. (2144 views)
Tasted by sawira on 11/21/2014 & rated 92 points: Impressive on the second day with gushing nose of tar and roses, with a deep fruited palate. This is such a winner, though it was quite closed on the first night. Time in hand! (1965 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 11/19/2014 & rated 89 points: Always goes down well. Still quite tannic, should hold for several more years. (1817 views)
Tasted by Brunellino on 11/12/2014 & rated 93 points: Color (14/15) Aromas (23/25) Body, Structure (23/25) Overall Impression(33/35)

Surprising fantastic wine that surpassed my expectations. This baby Barolo complimented the steak and Belgian frite dish with chocolate as dessert!

BRAVO (2002 views)
Tasted by Jack11211 on 10/24/2014 & rated 90 points: Opened up really nicely and was even better after letting it breathe for a bit. Was great on its own, a little more age will soften it a bit but it's definitely a nice wine to drink right now as well. Would have been even better with a nice cheese and cured meats (1817 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
