Community Tasting Notes (average 89.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 194 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ChairmanKao on 1/2/2023 & rated 94 points: ABV: 13.5%. 90% Sangiovese, 5% Merlot, 3% Colorino, & 2% Malvasia Nera. Gorgeous nose of dark cherries and plums mixed with leather and roasted Mediterranean herbs. Plenty of fruit on the mid-palate, lifted by the well-integrated acidity. There's also a hint of umami, followed by a pleasant, lengthy finish. This wine is still very young and has a lot of potential. I'd keep it in the cellar until the 20-year mark. (675 views)
Tasted by amateur62 on 6/4/2021 & rated 91 points: PnP. Aged quite different compared to the bottle we had last year, appears much younger, red fruited (prune and sour cherry) and still quite primary, medium+ acidity, full bodied, resolved tannins with a sweet touch, long finish. Still very good but unfortunately my last bottle, drink within the next 3 to 4 years. (1488 views)
Tasted by popesign on 4/17/2021 & rated 88 points: Very good with ribs from Texas Long Horn (1419 views)
Tasted by sommelier on 3/13/2021 & rated 88 points: The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle.
It smells like coffee, medium toast and oak. It tastes like medium toast and vanilla. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. (1456 views)
Tasted by Yngve on 4/5/2020 & rated 92 points: So good! (1739 views)
Tasted by amateur62 on 3/22/2020 & rated 91 points: Bottle 11, PnP, required about 30 minutes to open.
No sign of age in colour nor on the cork, superb nose with a lot of tertiary notes (leather and forest floor) underlayered with red fruits, good acidity, medium to full bodied and long finish, perfect match with our self made Pizza. In a nice spot, drink now or during the next 3 to 4 years. (1342 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 12/15/2018 & rated 91 points: PnP. Oak is fully integrated now. At 9 yo this is showing really well. Nice cherry fruit, with some bitterness, but in a good way. Tannins have softened. (1655 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 12/9/2018 & rated 93 points: Outstanding! Fruity, Smooth. Wonderful finish (1519 views)
Tasted by Swaggering Beaunie on 11/6/2018: Classic Chianti that is drinking at peak. It led off with intense blueberry, followed by leather, bitter cherry pit, and iron. The tannins are tapering off now, but there is still good acid. I'd think the wine could go for another couple of years without getting tired. Delicious stuff. (1655 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 6/17/2018 & rated 91 points: - Garnet color with fast forming legs. It's balanced and has flavours of raspberry and strawberry with a medium/full body. Juicy texture with a medium finish - A very rich Chianti. 1 of the better Chianti Classico that i have tasted and at a reasonable price. (1827 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 4/28/2018 & rated 89 points: On opening you smell Cabernet Sauvignon and oak. With some air, the Cab smell dissipates. Smells of ripe black cherries, damp earth. This is a fairly ripe and rich Chianti. A bit of oak on the finish. I like this, but I would like it more without the Cab in it and if they used less oak. I prefer the Felsina CC, Fontodi CC and the Monsanto CCR to this. (1872 views)
Tasted by Conde on 1/23/2018 & rated 91 points: Ruby-red colour, but with obvious opaque and brick-coloured nuances.

Lovely, complex and intriguing nose with ripe, red fruit (cherrys and strawberrys), some dried fruit, mediterranean spices, coffee and moist leather.

Mediumbodied, with preserved fruit, pinpointed acidity, smooth tannins and excellent length I would classify this wine as a minor revelation. I need to cellar my Fonterutolis for a longer time! Excellent!
I had it with ricotta and spinach tortellinis with a creamy sauce and extra spinnach. Ok, although I wish I would have served it with some sort of lean and classic veal.
I mean this wine is peaking now, but if you like'em really developed and mature, you can hold on for a few more years. (1731 views)
Tasted by amateur62 on 4/14/2017 & rated 91 points: Bottle 9 from 12. Decanted 30 minutes before dinner. Mature Chianti with lot of tertiary aromas, good acidity and concentration, medium to long finish. Superb with Pizza, reaching slowly its peak now but will stay on this level for another six years at least. (2908 views)
Tasted by BoulderWine on 3/30/2017 & rated 89 points: Opened up nicely after a few minutes. Best with food. A solid pasta wine. (2741 views)
Tasted by Decanthor on 3/4/2017 & rated 92 points: Still excellent. Good on PnP, more fruit and complexity at 30 minutes. (2450 views)
Tasted by Högblom on 12/25/2016: Fantastistkt gott, mycket taniner men ändå lätt. Åt till pasta m varm kycklingleversallad. (2529 views)
Tasted by Arvidien on 5/25/2016 & rated 89 points: Excellent. (3368 views)
Tasted by Swaggering Beaunie on 3/2/2016: Tight and acidic upon opening, this wine needs several hours in the decanter to show itself. With sufficient air it yields mixed black fruits, tangy acidity, toasty oak, and a distinctly pleasant floral perfume (especially at the end). The oak is still a bit prominent for my tastes; I think this needs a year or two more in the bottle. The acidity is sufficiently generous that I think this could be a sleeper candidate for very long-term aging....maybe 20 years. If you have a bunch of them, consider doing that. (2443 views)
Tasted by keio on 2/13/2016 & rated 89 points: J'aurais cru qu'il y aurait une plus grande longueur en bouche et plus de raffinement prochain dans 3 ans. C'était quand même bon (2548 views)
Tasted by chanote44 on 1/19/2016 & rated 90 points: Bright tart cherry, a little leather and spice. Nice acid and good balanced finish. This has many good years left. (2563 views)
Tasted by GTFreek on 1/11/2016: Blind tasted. Dried cherry, bacon, red currants, floral, tomato leaf, stewed raspberries, mushroom. I was right in Tuscan Sangiovese, but I said Brunello. (2336 views)
Tasted by dchorton on 11/9/2015 & rated 84 points: Perhaps past its prime. Too fruity, too sweet, no depth. (2009 views)
Tasted by Catman49 on 4/20/2015 & rated 91 points: Very smooth, light tannins (2569 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 4/16/2015 & rated 91 points: Really good, even without food. Lots of nice cherry taste on this. Bright and nice mouthfeel. Well balanced. (2196 views)
Tasted by WineCPA on 2/26/2015 & rated 89 points: Better than your average Chianti. Ripe cherry, hints of darker fruit. Enjoyable now. Jammy finish but well balanced overall. (2451 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
