Tasted by ShadowIII on 7/31/2023 & rated 94 points: dark ruby, drinking very nicely now with years to go, dark fruits, blackberry, currants, cedar, integrated tannins, long finish, real crowd pleaser (174 views)
Tasted by wine-enthusiast on 4/23/2017 flawed bottle: Cork fell apart. My last bottle and corked what a waste. (2332 views)
Tasted by tonysmith72 on 2/13/2016 & rated 93 points: This was outstanding for how old it was. Black cherry and soft round tannins. Loved it. (3170 views)
Tasted by jeginmt on 1/29/2016 & rated 94 points: Same notes as I posted in 2013, except that the wine should be drunk right after opening, when it is excellent. After a couple of hours its rounded tannins fade. (3010 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 11/9/2013 & rated 93 points: This felt incredibly young today... it actually felt younger and more complex than the '00 & '01 vintages of the same wine I drank in recent years! Outstanding nose. Very complex palate with spices, leather and a good concentration of dark fruits. (4720 views)
Tasted by jeginmt on 9/28/2013 & rated 94 points: A wonderful wine, aged beautifully, gets better every year so far, dark red, rich fruit, just enough tanins for good structure, long spicy finish. Very little sediment. Excellent complement to our Italian roast beef dinner. Decanted for an hour before drinking. Luckily I have 4 more bottles left from a case that I bought about 18 years ago upon recommendation of the wine maker who visited our local wine festival. (4597 views)
Tasted by BoulderWine on 8/21/2013 & rated 92 points: Dark color, mature aromas. Dark sweet fruit. Very enjoyable with a grilled steak. Has held up very well. (3117 views)
Tasted by G_H on 1/24/2013 & rated 92 points: What a wine! So amazingly well matured, nice leather, autumn leaves, dark chocolate very very long and great finish! (3209 views)
Tasted by Whine-oh on 5/28/2011 & rated 90 points: Had with Julia and Richie at home. Minimal Bricking.... Opened and let sit for an hour, some sediment. Elegant nose of some red and black fruits, very alive for a mature cab...Good fruit, nice midplatate, with some fine grained tannins to give it some appreciable structure, very much still alive and in a good place.. (4080 views)
Tasted by wineack on 11/22/2009 & rated 88 points: Good fruit and drinking nice. Good bottle bouquuet (3577 views)
Tasted by bryon m on 5/3/2009 & rated 90 points: Drank at the Grumm's. Good color and body, the wine still has nice fruit is in great shape! Great value conisdering I purchased the wine for less than $25, it could be good for a few more years. (109 views)

Chateau St. Jean

Producer website

Founded in 1973, Chateau St Jean has long been recognized as a leader in Sonoma County Vineyard Designated wines. Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren uses her more than 35 years of vineyard and winemaking expertise with Chateau St Jean to highlight the best of each vineyard in every wine.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
